A few basic phrases I picked up... - sethg - 2011-04-18 I was watching a Chinese movie on Netflix and I picked up a few phrases, but I'm not sure about the proper pinyin or characters for them. This is a simple question, but, if anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it. 真的嗎?zhen de ma = Really? (Is this one correct?) 知道嗎?zhi dao ma = Understand? (Correct?) 實嗎? sounds like "shir ma" and the subtitles said "Really?" for this as well. Is this accurate? Also, what about something that sounds like "mei zhi la" that means "It's okay" or "It's fine"? I heard it, but I can't find any characters that match up with what I heard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A few basic phrases I picked up... - zachandhobbes - 2011-04-18 I have really, really limited Chinsee knowledge except that my mom spoke it to me when I was a kid, but Shir ma (or whatever the english pin yin is of it I don't know) does kind of mean "really" It's kind of like a confirming statement, like "Is that so", "What??" "Really?" etc A few basic phrases I picked up... - kitakitsune - 2011-04-18 sethg Wrote:實嗎? sounds like "shir ma" and the subtitles said "Really?" for this as well. Is this accurate?實嗎 is "shi ma". "Shir ma" would be the Beijing dialect. But I could be wrong. I'm still a beginner. A few basic phrases I picked up... - zer0range - 2011-04-20 '是吗?' shi4 ma - Really?/Is that so? 没事吗?/没事吧/没事了?没事啦? mei2shi4ma/ba/le/la You okay?/Everything alright? 了=啦 in some cases.. Taiwanese use it a lot but it sounds girly. Your first two are correct. A few basic phrases I picked up... - sethg - 2011-04-20 zer0range, thanks so much! One question, if you don't mind. For 沒事啦, is this always a question? The context I saw it in was, a girl is trying to examine a wound on a guy's head and he says it kind of meaning, "It's fine!" or "It's okay!" Is that accurate? A few basic phrases I picked up... - mizunooto - 2011-04-20 If you have peraperakun, you can get the pinyin by mouseover. Keep going! You are picking it up! On your last point, sometimes a statement becomes a question and vice versa. A few basic phrases I picked up... - zer0range - 2011-04-20 sethg Wrote:zer0range, thanks so much! That's right. It's in the tone of voice/context. A few basic phrases I picked up... - sethg - 2011-04-20 Thanks so much guys! I'm kind of approaching Chinese differently (not studying pinyin/tones, just trying to listen a lot and "pick it up", basically) and so I really appreciate you answering these kinds of questions. One last one, if you don't mind: I was rewatching the same movie and I heard "dui le". The subtitles said "sorry", but he was saying it the way one might remember something and then say, "Oh, right! Sorry, sorry..." Is this 對了? A few basic phrases I picked up... - zer0range - 2011-04-21 Yep.
