Or rather it's because Taiwanese people think Japanese culture is so cool. That may or may not be partially due to the occupation, but the occupation is not the reason の is used commonly here. Japanese culture is pervasive here, and it's definitely more due to the cool factor more than the occupation, which most of the population is not old enough to remember.
