It's really up to you. I can't stand the sight of simplified characters, and I make the least possible effort to learn them.
I thought that the rationale for simplification was more about the ease of writing than ease of memorization. And yes, characters with fewer strokes are easier to write, but considering that it makes no difference for computer input and that most people would use cursive in handwriting anyway, the benefits are minimal these days.

No, the rationale was to promote literacy, which it did, though I doubt that the sole reason for this is due to the simplification at all, but rather perhaps the CCP saw the need for literacy so a proper infrastructure was provided for schooling etc as opposed to the primitive feudal ideology. So if anything, simplification was merely an ostensible cause to better literacy rates. Even still, literacy rates in Taiwan and HK are just as good, if not better (5 second google showed TW is at 96%, China is at 85%). Literacy arises from economic and infrastructural reasons, standardisation in one way or another is needed, but it doesn't mean you should bastardize the actual script. Simplification also probably arised out of a general movement to distance away from aristocracy, and age-old classics.

And Jimmy: I'm sorry, I won't be able to give you a proper, or any explanation at all to what I said. Though I can say this much. We don't learn/memorise things based on some single linear variable x. There are much more complex things going on when we learn something. Our brains look for patterns, visual cues et cetera. I'll need more time to think about it. I won't nest0r it up either, I'll wait for her to do that Tongue
