Writing to someone you do don't know - Shinichirou - 2015-10-09

Hi, everyone.

Does anyone possibly have a copy of the “The Routledge Course in Japanese Translation” by Hasegawa Yoko? Somewhere in this book there is a wonderful example of how to address a letter to someone you have never met yet in Japanese. It’s just one page long. Could someone maybe kindly scan this and upload it (alternatively an email would be just fine, too). As I am student and would use it for academic purposes only I believe there should be no serious copyright infringement. Thanks a lot!

I would love to help you with this but my copy of the book is currently not anywhere near me (other side of the world, actually). I'll ask my family if they can help out scanning that page. Do you know which page it is exactly? They might not be able to find it as easily.

I have the book and would be willing to scan it but I don't know which page you mean exactly. Do you know the page number, or what chapter it's under? There's loads and loads of exercises and it'd take ages to check all of them to find the one that matches what you're looking for.

Thank you very much. Unfortunately I don't quite remember what page it was on, but I believe it was rather at the beginning of the book, maybe like pages 20-100 or something. And I remember this passage being highlighted in a bluish colour I think.

The closest thing I could find was this, which was an exercise on page 5 and contained the answer portion in the back of the book. I was looking for something written in Japanese rather than English, and thought it would be more substantial so probably overlooked it a few times.

Yeah, that's it! Thanks a great deal mate. I expected it to be slightly more elaborate, though, but as an introduction line that will do just fine I think. Thank you.
