The original narrative by the media was that all of them were marines. This led to much praise and gratitude for marines and annoying circlejerk-like "semper fi" quotes on social media when in reality (something the media has trouble with), all of this credit was undeserved. I fear the damage has already been done.

I was glad when I read that President Obama personally telephoned the men to thank them for their heroic efforts. Certainly warranted.

What damage? Who got damaged by the news getting a technicality wrong?
