Best Japanese dramas for learning - Kuroro - 2015-07-06

I was going through the stickies and a lot of them suggest watching a japanese drama, I was wondering which one I should start out with.
I was hoping to come across a thread similar to the one for recommended manga but I can't seem to find it, so which one do you suggest?
I know none of them but I was hoping to find a fairly ordinary/easy one, ideally dealing with the lives of students, with subtitles in japanese (do you know where I can find them in .srt or .ass ready for vlc?)

There are a few listed here: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=202196#pid202196
In that thread they also recommended this link: http://japaneselevelup.com/media-guide/

Good luck!

Some i use:

*

"hard subtitles" japanese and chinese.

* 孤独のグルメ
If you like food. You can find japanese subtitles for season 2 easily.
If any has japanese subtitle for an other season, let me know :-)

* https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpu_ebrsSLZbwuVSohXh083ZJu_en0XU0
short (and ugly) anime from the 80th that have hard subtitles. bad quality of image, but relatively easy to understand.

Some really really nice short horror story you can understand even if you dont get the dialogs.

I just got a hulu.jp account, and I hear that netflix will be in japan by this fall.
I second 孤独のグルメ if you're looking specifically for a japanese show and they also have dubbed american shows.
The thing is you have to use a proxy or vpn to seem like you have a japanese IP in order to watch the videos on hulu.jp.

I use Express VPN, which costs about ~$20 per month, their Tokyo server gives me a pretty fast connection while streaming. Hulu.jp costs about 1000 yen (~$8).

I also recommend 日本人の知らない日本語, which is a super fun look at the japanese language.

We should really start a thread of shows by JLPT level similar to the manga thread.
