iKnow engine broken - Rusty - 2015-06-14 I wonder if anyone else here is using iKnow and what they think of the new learning engine. I am really hating it. Progress is very hard to make and sometimes turns negatives with reviews now sometimes several days or even weeks apart. My own feeling is that to encourage people to learn a few gold stars are a good idea. Meaningless of course but good for morale which is quite important. The new system seems designed to actually take gold stars away from you which leads to temper tantrums and doesn't seem to be a good way to encourage you. 'Gameification' may be a horrible word but it seems a good way to keep learners learning and iKnow is now its absolute antithesis. Just my opinion of course! iKnow engine broken - Bokusenou - 2015-06-14 I stopped using it after they deleted all the user-created decks & went paid. Good to know it's still around though, I guess. iKnow engine broken - erlog - 2015-06-15 This kind of stuff is why I've always been somewhat worried about siloed learning systems that want you to cede control of your progress information to them. When they work well it's fine, but if the site changes their algo in a way that doesn't work for you or just plain goes out of business then that can be tremendously demoralizing. It's annoying to have to start back over in a different system where you're not sure what material you have studied versus which stuff you haven't yet. That's one of the big things I like about Fabrice and this site. I started drilling RTK by using this site, and I did for a while. At a certain point I wanted more control over my cards and scheduling, and the system allowed me to export to Anki. A lot of sites don't let you do that. Setting up your material and getting used to Anki's awful interface takes some work, but it's really nice to be able to trace your study progress back years. |
