Logic of Keyboard Shortcuts (1 2 3 hotkeys) - ukanuk - 2015-04-18

Does anyone use the keyboard shortcuts 1 2 and 3?

It seems to me like the most logical behavior for the 1 2 3 to either match to Y N and E respectively, which is what I would guess according to what's written in the help box, or to N Y E, which is what I would guess according to how the N Y E buttons are laid out on the screen. Regardless, from testing it as best I know how, it seems like 1 2 3 = N E Y, which to me makes no sense at all. At the very least the help ought to be more explicit as to what each button does.

Better yet, change the keys to ones that would "just work" for people coming from Anki, i.e. map 1 2 3 4 to N Y E E. That way people from Anki (who I assume use 1=N, 4=E, and the spacebar for Y) can still use 1 and 4, and only have to relearn 2=Y. People not from Anki can use 1 2 3 = N Y E which exactly matches the onscreen layout.

Alternatively, if a lot of people already use 1 2 and 3, it'd be handy if we could get the additional mapping J K L = N Y E, to appease newbies who've used neither koohii nor Anki. I'm currently accomplishing the same thing with Autohotkey, but it's not as nice nor quite as functional as native functionality would be.

In summary, I think the help dialog box text needs to get fixed, and also either:
Change 1 2 3 4 = N Y E E
or
Add J K L = N Y E

I'm sorry if this isn't quite the right forum... There's nothing in the rules, and it seems like this post only marginally fits under "Exchange tips & advice for completing RTK Vol.1", but it doesn't fit at all in the other categories.
