Serious talk shows - comeauch - 2015-05-17 Does anyone knows any serious Japanese talk show? Ideally on YouTube! I've recently found this channel "SakuraSoTV", but apparently they're from the extreme right and it seems that a lot of their shows indeed have to do with Korea and China, presumably in a negative perspective. Some of their content is still usable though. There's also TokyoMX channel, with the 西部邁ゼミナール, but just in case someone knows of something else!I have a Japanese VPN, but it doesn't seem to help much. I can access Gyao, but apart from the occasional good movie, much of it doesn't interest me much. <rant> Sometimes I wonder why I wanted to learn Japanese in the first place. I'm not a fan of anime, idols and all that 和 x_x </rant> Serious talk shows - rich_f - 2015-05-17 I'm basing this off of what I watch via TV Japan, which is a US satellite service that gives me a selected feed of mostly NHK shows, but some Fuji and some Nihon TV shows, too. I use it because I'm lazy, and because they time-shift the content for me, which saves me a lot of hassle. (And I'm lazy.) But I'm sure you can find most of this stuff on NHK. So I'll mention what I watch. Sunday Debate is usually on NHK on Sundays (duh). That's politicians debating their various party positions. Gendai Close-up is on weeknights (here in the US on TV Japan, anyway). Dunno when it runs in Japan. They do 30 minutes every show on a news topic of one sort another. It's two long VTR segments mixed in with a couple of studio discussions with experts. Generally any NHK special you find is going to be Serious (but there may not be much conversation). They do a lot of really good reporting in their specials, and they're pretty interesting and entertaining at the same time. They did 4-part series on violent weather/global warming/possible disaster scenarios that was good, also a 4-part series trying to predict life in 2040 that was creepy, and LOTS of coverage of Tohoku still trying to recover after 3/11. Just tonight there was a special on the cleanup at Fukushima dai-ichi. I can't watch too much serious TV, though, or else my head will implode from the weightiness. Serious talk shows - Aikynaro - 2015-05-18 I often watch a show on TV Asahi weekdays from the late morning (10:30?). It's a news/panel show that brings in a bunch of experts for their topics-of-the-day. Tends to be reasonably in-depth and covers a lot of international issues as well as local stuff. Asahi is apparently left-wing biased, but I'm not even sure what that means in Japan and haven't noticed anything, seems pretty neutral ... though even they sometimes fixate on Korea and China (christ when that 'nut rage' thing was going on ... and on and on and on...). Might be universal across the political spectrum. Checking, and I think it's this: http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/scramble/ |
