Where's Khatzumoto? - Zgarbas - 2015-08-16 Aah. My bad! Sorry, been reading the forum sporadically and on a tiny screen. Where's Khatzumoto? - scooter1 - 2015-08-16 It probably makes sense to consider closing this thread down as it is going nowhere...fast. TBH, the Japanese way was how I was reading his username from the beginning though, so I have been having more fun, even though reading it clearly wrongly. On the AJATT thread, are there people against the AJATT idea? Where's Khatzumoto? - rochel - 2015-08-16 I definitely don't want to pry into Khatz's personal life. Not that I could much, even if I wanted to, since I only know of him as Khatzumoto, and only have the scarcest idea of him beyond his AJATT persona. It *seems* like something might not be right there, just because he appears to have abandoned the AJATT online establishment that he built up over so many years. But I figure that he'll resurface if and when he wants to/is able to. Being a customer of his through AJATT Plus, I was just amazed that everything was so automated and turn-key on his side of things that it was 5 months before I even realized that he was not around any more. I know that a lot of his ideas have been controversial, particularly how he has commercialized them, but his methods have been really helpful to me in learning Japanese over the last few years. Where's Khatzumoto? - CreepyAF - 2015-08-17 I was browsing AJATT for clues today, and noticed something subtle but interesting: there are a lot of design/functional elements that seem to have gotten fragmented over the years on the site. For example, whenever a post is a part of a series, there is a series list that doesn’t match any design elements; there is little consistency on links opening in new tabs or in the same one; seeing how many posts don’t include and image, the related posts section has to use a random image to represent a post; etc. Why is this important? Well, I have a theory that the site’s fragmentation might have played into Khatz’s disappearance. Here is an archive capture of the site on September 9, 2014, back when it had two sidebars and wasn’t responsive: Capture One And here is a capture from Sept 21, 2014, which has the current look to the site: Capture Two Sometime in mid September, Khatz tried to revamp the design of AJATT and made it responsive. Then in early October, Khatz disappeared. Did the revamp not remove the messiness as he had hoped, or maybe made things even worse? Khatz is a DIY coder. With the amount of automation and different projects AJATT encompasses, it wouldn’t surprise me if the backend of the site was a complete mess. For the past few years, it seemed (to me at least) that new posts were rehashed concepts. Could it be that a combination of uninspired writings and a site that was still a mess after a complete revamp forced Khatz to throw up his hands and walk away? This is just wild speculation with minimal supporting evidence, but it still might be an interesting angle to think about things... Where's Khatzumoto? - kapalama - 2015-08-17 I understand that Ruby on Rails is more resource dependent than other approaches, but one great thing is that using CSS used to be a nightmare coming back to a site you had no worked on in awhile. I can see how the "Convetion over Configuration" approach has made the web in general more usable, because so many people are starting with common design elements. SO as the fashion changes just using the updated defined broad style allows every to look fresh without re- hand coding everything. Where's Khatzumoto? - CreepyAF - 2015-08-17 After doing some more creeping, I think I now know why Khatz is on hiatus. As mentioned earlier, we shouldn't discuss Khatz's personal life. I'm not going to say what the details are, but I will say that I've found some evidence that would suggest he's had a rough 2014/15. As far as I know, no one has died, no one is terminally ill, or anything like that. He's just going through some stuff that many people have to deal with in life. I'm sorry this post is so cryptic. If you happen to know his real full name, you'll be able to find the answer on Google (the key is to not include AJATT related keywords in your search). Though keep in mind the creeping responsibility. Once your curiosity is sated, don't share what you've found. Where's Khatzumoto? - Bokusenou - 2015-08-17 Oh, I think I found it. Darn, that must be rough. No wonder he would need some time to recover... Where's Khatzumoto? - Danchan - 2015-08-17 The above was released on February this year, but it seems it was actually recorded in around 2010. In the second video Khatz mentions Ajatt + like its a new thing. Up until that point though I was thinking, woah, you guys can still talk about these topics so enthusiastically all these years later? That's awesome. But actually no. Where's Khatzumoto? - TheVinster - 2015-08-18 Can you guys just direct us to what you're talking about? Instead of being shady. Although I suppose it's just a divorce based on dtcamero's comment. Where's Khatzumoto? - ryuudou - 2015-08-18 Some BYU university editorial Wrote:“If ”getting rid” of the cats would result in them being destroyed, I am against it,” said Katyana Rogo-Manduli, 19, a junior from Nairobi, Kenya, majoring in computer science. “If the university were to give homes to each one of the cats, then that would be a good thing, and I would be for it.”Unrelated, but dawww. Now I know why he had a cat in his apartment after he moved to Japan. Where's Khatzumoto? - CreepyAF - 2015-08-18 TheVinster Wrote:Can you guys just direct us to what you're talking about?
