I ask this to myself every time I watch one of his videos, but for some reason it keeps happening.

When I was blogging, I saw this happen a lot. Happened to me as well. Zarxrax is right - not uncommon at all.
It's still an anecdote. You can't make conclusions about everyone or what is likely based on it.
Of course you want something definitive, but in the absence of such, speculation will have to suffice.

I concluded nothing. Just noting there was a realistic possibility outside of "dead, hospitalized, or kidnapped by yakuza".

Someone with Japanese look-up-fu could see if his real name is available in Japanese (Chiba, presumably) phonebooks or listings. (His real name isn't that hard to find (anymore), but you learn more about his family than you do about him when you google it). On the other hand, google-fu-ing his name and thusly finding and contacting his (ex?)wife on twitter is another possibility, though the person who does that might come off as more than a bit creepy. Hm. Could that reason be that it's true?

He was kidnapped by North Korea. He's holding AJATT classes to would be spies in a bunker somewhere as we speak.

If you haven't been in contact with someone you generally don't know if they're okay or not. Hence the suspicion. Hm. Don't shitpost.

You don't need to be in contact with someone you used to know, to know they're fine. If they weren't fine, you'd hear about it from shared acquaintances.

There are dozens of people I haven't talked to in decades, about whom I know for a fact that they're alive...just by virtue of the fact that no one ever called to tell me they died. If someone does die, I invariably hear about it.

Perhaps if you weren't on some kind of spectrum you'd know how these things work.

We don't even know that he ever returned to Japan.

^How do we know khatz left Japan in the first place?

Your post changes I nothing said and is full of a lot of logic stretches. Just because someone is not fine doesn't necessarily mean you will automatically hear about it. Not everyone has strong mutual acquaintances with their friends. Also just because someone is not okay doesn't mean they dead; there are a lot of other bad situations one can get into that you wouldn't necessarily hear about. Therefore in this situation there's nothing unusual about a little suspicion.

Perhaps if you didn't have a reputation for being a subpar poster you'd make more sense when you attempt to call people out.

If someone was doing AJATT hard-mode in a foreign country while single and working from home, they could be dead for weeks before someone noticed the smell.

But, more likely, he's probably just chillin' in China, I know he was all about Cantonese for the last few years. Plus I'm sure he ran out of things to say on the blog, there are only so many different ways can you tell people to use SRS and immersion.

God speed, Khatz.

Hey guys, as someone who knows Sam (ex Tokyo roomie) and knows Khatz in real life, I thought I'd fill you guys in a bit on the real life side of things.

We have no idea where he went. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He asked some people to watch his cats a while back, then never responded to anyone who said they could. I haven't seen him at game night in over a year now. But he does this from time to time. He'll turn up eventually. I think silverspoon mainly runs itself now anyway.

sort of off topic:
Also, its crazy for me to see multiple people bring up Sam. I keep telling him hes Internet famous but he doesn't believe me. What kind of content do you like to see from him? I'll pass the word on if you guys have requests.

Where's Khatzumoto? - vtx4848 - 2015-07-21

Thanks for the update. The only thing I've ever seen from him is the AJATT videos, although the first interview I think I've watched like 5 or 6 times fully. It is actually really motivating. I probably wouldn't watch one of his videos without Khattz though.

Here it says that the domain "Expires on 2015-08-07". It expires on the 7th of august so we will see if he renews it (if domains work this way)

the guy has a degree in computer science and crafted a website so involved that it includes his own proprietary public-use SRS system/database.
if that domain isn't set to auto-renew then i'd be shocked.
i'd say his site has the deadline because he's being a cheapskate and not buying years into the future... or maybe using a very cheap provider, or both.

The same could be said for the HTAL admin but look what happened.

Maybe this is Khatzumoto testing us to see if we can learn Japanese using the AJATT way without him.... i know there's been some ajatt withdrawl for me... i found myself hero worshiping, and living vicariously through his experience instead of learning and creating my own experience...to this day i'm still not fluent because of it, but oh well... Good luck Khatz, wherever you are.

Where's Khatzumoto? - Danchan - 2015-07-21

After seven years of blogging he may well have just said all he had to say for now. Or all he had to say as "Khatzumoto". He was very young when he started out and people do change.

Over the last few weeks I've once more skim-read through the whole of AJATT from the first few posts to the most recent. I copy pasted some of the choices parts into a word file in case the site up and vanishes one day. Five years after I first found his site and did the whole AJATT thing it's still interesting to see just how much I can find which reads as fresh and inspiring.
