Time for a new donation run for Fabrice! - Savii - 2015-03-19

Donated 15 euros. When I think about it this site has been one of the most important resources to my Japanese study, along with a few textbooks (esp. JtMW) and Core. Not so much for the reviewing system it's named for, but very much for the kanji database, story exchange and forums. So I figured I could at least give about the same amount I spent on Japanese the Manga Way and the Dictionaries of Japanese Grammar. I'd also like to thank the story and forum contributors!

I donated € 50,- a little over a year ago. And since then I've mostly moved on to other study methods, although the forums are still interesting to visit every once in a while.

Eminem2, it's great that you chose to support the site.

Have you checked the Wiki?

There's a lot of valuable resources in there. My personal favorite is the list of software created by forum users.

I thought Fabrice would post a list again... so I didn't mention the amount...

I donated €25 back on 18th March

Time for a new donation run for Fabrice! - tmesis - 2015-03-23

Hello,

I made a small donation of 10 Euros. After an abortive attempt several years back, I'm about 800 characters in and I think I stand a good chance of completing RTK 1 this time. The contributions made by other members really cuts down the work of creating memorable stories. So the donation is not only a small contribution to Fabrice, who runs this website, but also a modest thanks to the generosity of others who donated their stories and money so that people like me might learn. I had planned on making a more substantial donation upon completing RTK1, but this thread motivated me to step in to say thank you to everyone.

Thank you Stian and tmesis!

This.

This site is a great contribution itself, but it's also become a gathering point for so many people with talent and the will to contribute to other's without asking anything for in return.

Thank you to all the people who share their great kanji stories, to all of you who created great clues (specially to whoever came up with the idea of using Spiderman for "thread" 糸, you've given me uncountable laughs), and to all of the programmers here who have created awesome resources, in special Damien for creating Anki, and cb4960 for creating Rikaisama, along with so many other great tools.

Stian Wrote:I thought Fabrice would post a list again... so I didn't mention the amount...
Fabrice did post a list of donations, but without making any distinction between donations due to the challenge, and donations not related to it, so I didn't count it towards the total.

If someone else wants to have their donations included in the total here, please say it so, either on a reply here or on a private message if you prefer to remain anonymous.

Thanks again everyone!

Yes I figured there is no need for regular donations updates from my end since Sebastian is keeping his own count for the challenge, and effectively I can not distinguish the donations from my end (whether they are motivated by this thread or otherwise).

PS: I'm counting 8 donations since March 18th. Pretty sure most of these have been initiated from this thread (thank you Sebastian!). Maybe there's a lot of Koohii users who haven't registered here. Registration is always a hassle Smile

So there are people who use the main site, and probably lurk the forums, but still don't have a forum account?

I didn't even remember both accounts where separate. I guess with both accounts being separate, and the donation link only present in the main site after logging in (and without text), and totally absent from the forum site, probably not as many people donate as what all your work here deserves.

Thank you for creating both the main site and the forum, they have both been of invaluable help for me and many people.

I couldn't check this on a couple days, and I find that people stopped donating altogether?

Imagine that the main site, the forum and the wiki disappeared altogether and all your cards, and all the useful information shared here was gone for good.

Now imagine it all never even existed.

Isn't it all worth making a small donation?

C'mon people, we can do better!

Sorry for not updating until now.

The official total is 144€ / 157,79 USD, but some people donated without sharing the amount, so there's no way of knowing exactly how much came from the run.

Even if officially the goal wasn't met, I hope the run served to bring more donations to the site, because so many people get so much out of it, and all for free nonetheless.

BTW, I made a donation, and the first time I tried, Paypal asked me for a credit card. I tried again a while after that, and it didn't bother me with that and I could finally send the donation. I wonder if other people have had the same problem, or if I was doing something wrong at first.

Fabrice, have you thought of doing regular donation runs, or it wouldn't be worth the work? At least I wouldn't mind seeing a banner and a count on the top of the site every once in a while, ala Wikipedia (though adding your picture like Jimmy Wales at Wikipedia would probably be too much).

Thank you very much to all of you who donate to the site, and thank you Fabrice for making this community possible.

Well, I don't want to ever lost this community so here is my little contribution too :3

UP, thank you for your work!
