When did you go on to read RTKII? - Shizuru - 2008-03-04 Well, I've "finished" RTK1 -- and by finished I mean I have around 600 cards in the failed stack (...). Nonetheless, it is my second time of going through all of the RTK1 kanji. Having that I want to learn Japanese as fast as possible, I was wondering how much of the RTK1 did you complete when you started RTKII and whether it is viable to start on RTKII even if I still don't know RTK1 to 100%. Thanks! When did you go on to read RTKII? - vosmiura - 2008-03-04 I moved onto learning readings & vocab in context by the sentence method. It is probably divided; some people use RTK2 but I think that many don't. Having said that I think there's no reason you can't start doing sentences or RTK2 already, but just keep reviewing RTK1 and trying to clear the failed kanji. When did you go on to read RTKII? - Nukemarine - 2008-03-04 If you have 80% or more of RTK1 in stack four or higher, I think it's safe to go onto the next step. I prefer the sentence method/kanji in context over RTKII, but your mileage may vary. When did you go on to read RTKII? - gibosi - 2008-03-05 I will echo what others have said. I see no reason why you cannot go on to RTKII at this time. However, until you can comfortably read common materials, I encourage you to continue to review your failed kanji in RTKI. You know the old saying, "If you don't use it you lose it." If you are reading every day, you are using "it" and do not need to review RTKI. But until you have reached that level, reviewing RTKI every day is a method of "using it so you don't lose it." So keep reviewing RTKI and go on now to learn the readings. And good luck!
