What JLPT level would you roughly put DOBJG into? - manman2a - 2015-03-05 I hope its N4 or N4+. What JLPT level would you roughly put DOBJG into? - ashman63 - 2015-03-05 I'd imagine you could get pretty far on N3 with it too. What JLPT level would you roughly put DOBJG into? - Kenji86 - 2015-03-05 So far, I've only been using it as a reference, but do most people go through it entry by entry? What JLPT level would you roughly put DOBJG into? - SomeCallMeChris - 2015-03-05 I mostly used it as a reference (I don't really anymore although I certainly don't have every detail it offers memorized.) I think if you've completed a textbook series or equivalent (Genki, Minna no Nihongo, Tae Kim, imabi, etc) that you could get value out of going through the whole book once. Everything in it is reasonably common and useful. It doesn't line up particularly well with the JLPT. I think it probably covers all the N4 grammar points, just because N4 is pretty basic. Some grammar points in it may not be tested until N1, but it certainly doesn't cover all the N1 grammar points. However, at least at the N2/N1 level, reading speed is important, and the only way to read quickly is to practice reading a lot. To do that you'll need at least a basic grasp of all the points it covers. (When I was first reading native materials, I kept it on my lap next to my dictionary, and referred to it twice as often as my dictionary.) One way to use the DOBJG to study for the JLPT would be to get one of the test prep series (Kanzen Master is popular), and look up your points in the DOBJG when you have difficulty or confusion on any practice questions. Or you could look for a list of grammar points covered by the JLPT N4 and look up those specific points in the DOBJG. (For more advanced levels of the JLPT you might need the Intermediate and Advanced grammar dictionaries.) |
