Hi fellow JP'ers,

Forgive me, this has probably been discussed and if anyone can link me to a discussion that would be great.

I currently have my anki deck set up with steps 20 40 80, 150 % starting ease, graduating interval 1 day, easy interval 4 days.

I feel like I am seeing the same cards over and over and I'd like more space before seeing them again. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I've read the anki faq but to be honest there is not an in-depth explanation with examples, it's not very clear to me how to best configure this thing.

I suspect, as with most things, I'll learn as I go, but I would really appreciate any suggestions or insight anyone could offer.

Chet ~

Mine is: 1 10 and 250%. I think that is default. Works fine for me. 150% seems really low since I think 130% is the lowest possible. At least when I sort my cards by ease that's what the lowest ones are at. And the words I forget a lot noticeably have short intervals even if I get them right a few times in a row.

Just for reference and comparison, Supermemo reserves an ease of 2.5 or 250% for the easiest cards.
Damien, founder of Anki, set the program to have a default starting ease of 2.5 or 250%, assuming ease would gradually transition to an optimal number during review.

So, beginning at 150% you start at a low ease that, for the most part, decreases or remains the same. As mentioned by kameden, ease doesn't go lower than 130%.

Defaults (during review)
Easy: 130% of interval, +15% ease (for determining subsequent interval)
Good: 100% of interval, +0% ease
Hard: 70%(?) of interval, -15% ease
Again: Relearn card, -20% ease

A card's ease determines the interval in following reviews (previous interval * current ease).

I think the default settings are fair. The starting ease you set depends on how difficult you think the content of the deck is and how often you wish to learn it (quick cramming or light review).

Just as an example, I've set most of my decks at a default starting ease of 235%, assuming one "hard" has been pre-set. Steps are up to preference as well.
I've set up the learning period with the following settings:
6 60 600; Graduating interval 2 day; Easy interval 1 day

This question might fit well in the "Anki Small Questions Thread"~

Sorry for the double-post
Putting "ease" into perspective using a seed analogy:
When raising a particular seed or plant becomes difficult, you water or fix up its surroundings until it catches up with other well-off plants, and this shows your planting's a bit off or something in the plant/soil interferes with the plant's growth. If the seed is in fertile grounds and grows easily, the plant requires less attention and care. When a plant continues to struggle in a specific area you let the plant go and try again with a different method, or you seek advice from a horticulturist.

Likewise ease influences how much time the user spends reviewing information and knowledge according to how well he's internalized the information. To optimize the anki database, delete or modify cards that take up too much time and spend less time reviewing/inputting easy cards. Find a preferred ease through this addon and gain a better understanding of ease through the card's info

Aspiring and Kamden, I really appreciate you guys' help and support. It's helping me down the road to understanding how this works.
