2014 Reflections and 2015 Resolutions - datrukup - 2015-01-10

The worst aspect of New Year's resolutions for me is that I don't think about what they should be for more than a week before the new year. This results in me committing to misguided actions (eg I'll write on lang8 every day when I should really be listening to podcasts). I'll keep my resolutions simple and figure out the details as I go along.

1) Score at least a 300 on the J-CAT
2) Get a six-pack

2014 Reflections and 2015 Resolutions - Splatted - 2015-01-11

I didn't make a resolution last year because among other things Japanese wasn't a priority and I'd reached a level where I could comfortably use it to do a lot of what I wanted to do (I.e. consume native media). A laid back approached was what suited me then but I've been getting the itch to start pushing forward again.

I only completed one book this year and my manga reading fell off a lot too, but I did get back in to anime so watched a lot of that. My listening skills improved a lot as a result but my underlying knowledge has not progressed at all, and I feel has even regressed somewhat. Perhaps that's just me becoming more aware of my faults though.

Read at least 4 books - Reading has always been the main driving force behind my language study, both as a means and an end, so a reading goal seems a natural choice. I also want to encourage myself to read more in any language because it used to be my absolute favourite activity but I hardly do it anymore. This is intended to be quite an easy goal with the focus simply being on encouraging myself to read with some regularity rather than pushing myself to work hard.
