I found a website called http://tss.asenheim.org/ which is a small database of free old visual novels that can be switched in between Japanese and many other languages and have text that can be accessed by rikaikun (-chan and -sama too i guess) and can be copied and pasted. This must be a great resource for reading practise and sentence mining for sure.

Thanks for this - I've wanted to try a VN for some time but never quite got round to facing the bother of getting them to work on Linux.

I was also going to tell you to look on VNDB for titles that are packaged for Linux, but a quick check showed that none were Japanese... Here's hoping that will change in the coming years.
Other than that... Yeah, it doesn't seem worth it to make them work natively; it'd be easier to run a Windows VM (or dual boot).
EDIT: Ah, forgot to thank the OP for the link. Thanks for the link OP! A lot of older releases aren't available here; maybe I'll find something interesting.

Good link! If anyone wants anymore online VNs http://www.mazenove.com has a ton of them. Only Japanese-language ones though, no English.

There is a way to save from the game when the website's save icon is disabled? I'm in between a dialog but I don't see a menu icon in game, maybe you can save only in determinate moments?
