Hi,

I will be taking the JLPT n1 this December and I'm a bit worried about the reading comprehension part after having looked at old tests/模擬試験.

Pretty much all of the reading I've done so far has been novels, but their style is pretty much the opposite of the 読解 part.
The novels I've read used a wide range and words to describe vividly but were mostly straight forward (exception was 砂の女) and the grammar is easy to understand.
The 読解 on the other hand mostly used easy vocabulary but crams a lot of different opinions, unclear descriptions etc. into a small text to make it difficult to extract information.

What I'm looking for right now is ready available reading material (innocent book, net articles, etc.) that has a similar writing style to the 読解 parts. Started reading Wikipedia for that purpose but the high number of names and technical terms make it a bit slow.

good luck to the ones of you who are taking the test as well!

I passed the 読解 having read nothing but NHK, ~3 novels, some manga and occasional articles. I'd say NHK helped me the most. Language tests care more about your ability to quickly subtract information than to understand, per se, so novel reading skills won't help you that much (though of course reading speed and being used to reading helps *a lot*, I'm not dismissing novel reading as a whole). Wikipedia is pretty much what you should be looking at, and the 'technical' terms can pop up during the exam itself (the point isn't to know technical terms so much as to become able to understand technical terms after having read a short paragraph explaining it). I'm sure there are some 読解 books which helpfully collect the kind of articles that you should be getting used to for the N1 =)

Newspaper editorials (社説) are great for working on JLPT's 読解, and a great reading in general.
