My favorite site to check the correct stroke order is: http://www.csus.edu/fl/japanese/gahoh/Japanese.html There are quicktime movies for each kanji so that you can see where a stroke starts. Unfortunately there is no simple search function on that site so you have to use the radicals and it's slower than other sites. WWWJDIC or http://kakijun.main.jp/ allow you to search a character quickly but they don't show where the strokes start. In fact that can be very misleading. When checking kanji stroke order on those sites, my brain started to play tricks on me. I thought I saw a motion in the animation, but that was just an illusion. Once I checked everything on the site with quicktime movies I realized I was making a few mistakes because of that.
