Resource for common phrases? - yogert909 - 2014-10-17 There's all kinds for word frequency lists out there, but I'm wondering if there's any lists of frequently used phrases? Things like おじゃまします。 ごちそうさまでした。 おかえりなさい。 Also the seasonal sayings used to start letters, colloquialisms, proverbs... Ideally unchanging phrases that would be sorted by frequency of usage. Resource for common phrases? - rich_f - 2014-10-18 There isn't a frequency dictionary of cliches like that, but there a few books in a similar vein. The best is probably "A Handbook of Common Japanese Phrases," (ISBN: 4-7700-2798-2) which is a Kodansha translation of Sanseido's 決まり文句の辞典(きまりもんくのじてん), with content from Kodansha's Power Japanese series added. It's a collection of "what to say when doing X" sorts of phrases. The info is solid and amazingly useful, even if the book is a paper sleeping pill. ![]() If you don't need EN text, then do a search on amazon.co.jp for 決まり文句の辞典. You might find something good that way.
