My favorite thing about Japan. - yogert909 - 2014-09-05

I'm not really into a lot of the normal things that Japan is famous for. But I love and random maniacs like these guys who take something and run with it.

What are your favorite things aside from the usual anime, j-pop and katanas?

...Visual Kei? (JK)

My favorite thing is pretty mundane actually, is that I can forget to lock my bike somewhere or leave my cell phone on the table at places like starbucks while I go to bathroom or reorder something and expect it to be there when I get back. However, people just love to steal umbrellas.

My favorite thing about Japan. - ryuudou - 2014-09-05

The urbanness of the major cities.

Aren't Japanese people also obsessed (for some reason) with Anne of Green Gables?

Most of the stuff I'm into is still pop culture, just maybe some that hasn't really made it outside of Japan. I like dramas. Variety shows have grown on me (somewhat like a plague). But mostly, Funassyi. I love that little yellow weirdo.

@buonaparte
it's a good hat.
what's the name of the movie?

Their humor is different, unconventional, surprising and sometimes even unintended which is awesome. Which leads to my least favorite thing about the Japanese: My kind of sarcastic humor is lost on most of them. It makes me feel a bit rejected.

I've just discovered that I like another thing aobut Japan: it' the 'The' in the picture. Sounds like Winnie-THER-Pooh.

It does seem to be a love it or hate it sort of thing - I'm guessing that it's at least partially the voice? Most people I know claim that's what they hate about him. I'm not sure I even entirely know why I like him or why he's gotten so popular. I just find him cute and entertaining. What originally won me over was I ended up catching him and Daigo going on a gourmet tour (cause it can't be Japanese TV without someone eating!) and just the sheer WTFness of having the segment in the first place and then watching him eat was incredibly interesting to me.

Honestly, it probably IS that he is overly energetic and kind of obnoxious.

Just music.

Tokyo, I don't think there is another city out there that is quite like it. Japan on the whole; people tend to leave me the ***** alone.

The Shinano Wideview from Nagoya to Nagano. Especially in fall.

Vending Machines.

The service. Good God, the service.

I can live without a car. And be happy and productive, too.

Nagoya. Kyoto. Tokyo. Hiroshima. Love 'em all. Perfect? Oh hell no. But I like it there.

The food. God, this country is delicious.

The language is interesting. It's stimulating to be constantly exposed to new information.

It's super convenient. Trains, convenience stores, vending machines. Most of your basic needs are provided for.

It's pretty safe, at least compared to the U.S. Probably nobody's going to shoot you, which is nice.

You can ride down the sidewalk on a bicycle while wearing a suit and people don't think you're weird.

girls, girls, girls, girls, girls, girls, girls, i can look at j-girls all day and all night...
japanese girls' style i think is what makes them winners for me... (and i live in nyc)
Maybe it's the erokawa thing, but the ones that really have a good sense for style get huge points.
sorry tokyo, kansai girls have a way better style sensibility.

(should probably write somewhere that this was not my impetus to learn the language... just a perk, if you forgive the pun)

The girl's name Kojima Akemi, and the guy's name... well, no need to mention it. Everybody in Japan knows it.

The literature, music, anime, and other media mostly. Kyoto was pretty cool too, for history buffs (me included). Also, the value Japanese culture puts on hard work over talent is really refreshing. Oh, and cute stuff, it's nice to look at after a long day, and Japan has plenty.

J-pop and variety shows are my main interest. J-Dramas as well. I also find Takarazuka pretty fascinating.

My favorite thing about Japan. - dizmox - 2014-09-11

Service staff always have a smile on their face instead of an unwelcoming scowl like half the ones I encounter in Europe

Not being made obliged to pay for water in restaurants

Mostly friendly, well functional society with low crime and unemployment

Can you enlighten us non-Japanese? Smile Seriously, I've searched but couldn't narrow it down.
