Studying after N1 - Lawson - 2014-09-05

Hi there,

I'm pretty sure this topic has come up many times before and I think I once found a similar thread on here but I can't seem to find it when I search now so I thought I'd ask again.

I passed N1 this summer and was just wondering how some people who have also passed N1 continued with their study? I'm in Japan atm but going home for a year in a few weeks times so current plan is to buy as many second hand novels as I can and send them back so I can read daily when I get home but apart from that haven't come up with many other ideas. Tbh because I've been speaking Japanese daily for the entire year I've been here I actually have studied the Japanese language much so I will probably be reading etc twice as much when I'm back home!

Thanks!

don't neglect your listening.

youku has lots of nhk documentaries that you can watch for free... i recommend the economic and history ones very highly:

after that, general conversational japanese can have lots of quirks... best to watch lots of variety shows too. this site is basically a japanese HULU:

and you'll need to keep practicing speaking as well, obvs...but i'll leave that one up to you partner.

Thanks so much for the great links! Just to check, they work outside of Japan as well right? In regards to speaking I have lots of friends here who I'll be wanting to keep in touch with so lots of skype and LINE!

Congrats! I am not there yet at all so I don't have any advice to offer, but it seems nice...just gorging yourself on interesting native materials....

For watching Japanese stuff (or just having it playing in the background) I would recommend Niji - it streams a bunch of Japanese TV channels and works pretty well, you just need to download a little program, make a free account and log in.
