Don't mind this post; it'll be a log of my Japanese studies.
2011-2013: Became interested in Japan, spent 2 years scouring the net for the best methods to learn Japanese without actually doing anything. Japanese= None
Early 2014: Bought Complete Japanese, a hiragana book, Kanji de Manga, Real Japanese, and An introduction to kanji. Learned half the hiragana, read the first 15 pages of CJ, didn't even look at the other books. Japanese= Little to nothing
April-June 2014: Learned the Kana, finished CJ in addition to 5 other books, bought RTK and signed up to Kanji Koohi. Japanese= Have a grasp of the language, not alien anymore.
August 22-31: Finally started RTK. ditched the books. Japanese= 308 Kanji
