So the DSi was just announced with a slated release for November 1st in Japan (April in US). It looks pretty good, with mostly updates, though they did cut the GBA slot. But that's not the reason I'm posting here.

Anyway, I thought this was pretty good news for all the people who love to review with audio, as well as the people who study Chinese. I may be reading this wrong, but does it mean that with this enhancement, there will be games made that can rate your own pitch? That was my impression.

No, it's merely talking about software that is already built into the system. I'm pretty sure that they could already make games that rate your pitch, if they wanted to. I'm not really sure how adjusting pitch would be useful for language study though.

Apparently the DSi store will be region-specific, so this may mean the end of the region-free DS in general. That would be bad for Japanese study on the DS.

Though, you could get a Japanese DSi and only Japanese games, and it would still help your studies.

Yeah there will certainly be DS titles for a long while still, but the region locking is bad news.
There is a "homebrew" program to paint on the DS with the stylus... sorry I don't remember the link right now, but I read the documentation and learned that the DS has pressure sensitive screens! I couldn't believe it! THey have this and they have never put a commercial program to paint on the DS with pressure sensitivity? o_O I must be missing something... I know not everyone is an artist but when you see the really crappy paint programs they made on the DS this is unbelievable...
