Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - vileru - 2014-06-21 I saw this mind-blowing location in the film Enter the Void, and got surprised after a Japanese friend said she had heard about it before. I suspect it's in Shinjuku. Hopefully it wasn't a temporary exhibit. I'm going to Japan next week, so time is of the essence. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - vix86 - 2014-06-21 Reading the Wiki, it says many street shots were done in Shinjuku and Kabukicho, but a lot of the studio shots were done on sets. That place was probably created on a set. That scene location looks a bit too big to be any place in either of those places. Shinjuku has a lot of large clubs but I don't think any look like that and the spots in Kabukicho tend to be quite small. Kabukicho is also considered something of a red-light district in Tokyo, so keep that in mind. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - vileru - 2014-06-21 According to the Wiki, "The scenes where Oscar is alive were mostly shot on location, but the crane shots were exclusively taken in the studio." The place I linked is from a scene when Oscar is still alive, so there's a good chance it is (or was) an actual location. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - vix86 - 2014-06-22 In that case I think you'd have better luck checking some Japan travel forums than here; if no one knows the location. If the production studio isn't big you MIGHT be able to email them asking if the location was setup like that and if not where it was. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - gc_3k - 2014-06-22 I was surprised to recognize the path that Oscar and Alex walked along, from his apartment to the Void bar (last time I checked, that isn't a bar at all). I can probably pinpoint the location on Google Maps. I can't help with the scene in the OP's picture. Edit: Here's where "The Void" used to be. http://goo.gl/maps/Hx1jE I guess they tore the building down, but replay the movie, and the street will look familiar. In the opposite direction, there's the batting practice park that Oscar and Alex briefly walked past. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - yogert909 - 2014-06-23 The photo you posted looks a lot like the robot lounge in kabukicho. http://yattarjapan.com/en/2999211/ http://www.jumpjump.biz/2012/10/shinjuku-kabukicho-robot-restaurant.html Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - vileru - 2014-06-26 Thanks for the replies everyone. I already know about the kabukicho robot lounge, but I'm almost certain that it's not the place I'm looking for. After wasting too much time searching, I've decided to drop the hunt. I haven't asked my psychonaut friend who lives in Kichijōji yet, though. He has met Alex Grey multiple times and attended psytrance parties in Japan. Plus, he was born and raised in Shinjuku. So, if anyone I know is familiar with the place, it'd be him. In any case, it's a good excuse to chat with him. Japanese like him are as rare as albino kappas. I'm curious to hear stories about your especially unique and/or eccentric Japanese friends... Anyway, I suppose I'll check out the new Toranomon Hills instead. Has anyone been there? If so, what do you think of it? Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - kanttuvei - 2014-06-26 I have been to the Shinjuku "Robot" bar and it's not the same from the picture. It is similar, especially the waiting lounge but I wouldn't say it's the same. It's definitely an experience but it is not so much about the robots, it is more about the dancers. What do you expect to find from the Toranomon Hills? It's a nice looking modern building. Since it is very close I have been there once. There are some mansions, high end hotel and offices. In the first floors you can find something to eat. I think more impressive is the new avenue leading to the building, with the wide sidewalks, bike lanes (!), trees etc. Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - juniperpansy - 2014-06-26 yogert909 Wrote:http://www.jumpjump.biz/2012/10/shinjuku-kabukicho-robot-restaurant.htmlLOL the robot looks like she took waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much ecstasy Please Help Me Find This Place in Tokyo - marlee - 2015-07-20 Hey, I know this is over a year late but I'm pretty sure I found out which place it is you're looking for. It's called Host Club Ai in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Check out the pictures on this site: http://www.lacarmina.com/blog/2011/04/host-club-ai-best-kabukicho-shinjuku-host-clubs-japanese-kitsch-decoration-crazy-gaudy-lights-interior/ Definitely looks like it. All it took was to Google "amazing shinjuku clubs" and look through images until I found something that looked similar, and BAM there it was. Thank you internet. Too bad it's a host club and not just some cool place to hang out. |
