There are lots of people recording so-called 実況プレイ in Japanese. Here we share some links to good ones, and fun times ensure.

I'll start it off with this - A Series on Metro 2033 (日本語版).

Here's a cool 実況 of katamari Damacy. Looks like a really great game idea. Skip to around the eight minute mark to get right to the game play.

He's not boring, and is actually funny.

Seto Kouji makes pretty good 実況s. I watch his Super Mario 3D World playthrough whenever he ups a new video.

This is kind of off-topic, but what do you find interesting in LP's? (I'm asking just out of curiosity). I will admit to watching brief trailers or gameplay clips, but it's usually just for things I want in the future, or maybe if there's a difficult boss.

I kinda lost interest in playing games myself. A lot of games have grindy parts or parts that are plain boring or pointless. Think killing 100 enemies between each story cutscene. Or lots of horrible backtracking. Or bosses that are hard just because you have to learn their attack patterns by heart. Or actually grinding for experience, gold, items whatever until you can actually beat a boss.

I'd rather skip those parts in a video or at least be entertained by someone talking while that happens and lean back. A lot of games take like 20+ hours to play through and I don't have that kind of patience for doing something mostly pointless like shooting stuff or doing the same combo over and over just to see some 30mins of interesting story or cutscenes.

Also a lot of games are exclusively on one platform. Also I don't have to download like 20gb just to throw them away after 5mins of playing because I don't like the game.

This 青鬼 one was pretty funny.

Adding to what apirx said:

- It's a widely available source of natural, unscripted and "modern" language
- Some commenters are really entertaining
- A lot of trivia, fan theories and background information about the game are common topics
- They are often only about 15-20 minutes long, and hence pretty nice when you don't have time to actually play any games; how often do you play video games for 15 minutes and then putting it down?

実況s are awesome, they were my main source of Japanese exposure for quite some time. In response to why you would enjoy them, I say it's because of the context and the community feel. On Nico Nico you have the comments that appear at the point in the video they're posted, which makes it feel like you're watching it with others because you see people's comments for specific things while you're watching.

Something funny happens and people laugh and repeat the joke, or something surprising happens and people discuss it.

This also provides so much context for learning -- you have the video (game footage), audio (player commenting), and text (viewer comments).

I'll list part 1 link compilations of some favorites.

Calm and polite. Seems to be lucky all the time. I loved his playthroughs of the Crash Bandicoot and Banjo & Kazooie games (hadn't even played the Banjo/Kazooie ones myself before). Those were a real sense of adventure. I've watched each of the series more than once respectively, effectively making them better than TV shows.

Polite but sarcastic. He's played the Zelda games and perfected everything in them, if you like those. He played an awesome and hilarious party game called 皆のリズム天国, and a series of cult games called 勇者のくせに生意気だ that I loved.

These guys are just absolutely hilarious. They're like a comedy duo, everything they make is humorous. They notably play a variety of mario games, including fan made ones, that they get a ton of views for because they're so funny.
