I think my studying methodology is quite inefficient also.

I only spend 10-20 seconds on each new kanji, and then let the imagery build up each time I review it. Why don't I imagine a full picture at the start? Well I find it difficult if not impossible to visualise alot of the stories, also I find it tedious.

Anyway my point is, SRS takes care of long term memorisation, how you get there and failure rate doesn't really matter overall.

Still: slow progress is better than no progress Smile

Anyway, after not reviewing for a couple months and being stalled at about 1100 kanji, I restarted rtk1 and am now again above the 500 kanji. Jeej Smile luckily it's a lot easier to remember them now.

How could you stop? I'm exactly in the same place you left off and I'm more motivated than ever. The end is NEAR!!! Smile

I often go days without adding new kanji.

As long as you keep it with the reviews, doesn't matter how slow you go.

Today I added 11 kanji up to the end of Part 2 =)

The site says I registered on April 11, so that's nearly 4 months and about 5 kanji per day... oh well ;)

That's ok! I am now at 891 after about six months, so I guess I will need more than one year to complete RTK1 - but guess what? It is useful already! I can write more and more of my normal Japanese classroom course vocabulary in Kanji, and this is highly motivating. As I progress more and more on the book, the less I am scared by the sheer mass of it. Keep going, and soon you will ask yourself: "How could I ever not been able to recognized these beauties?" :-))

I got to around 850 or 900 last time I started, but I had to stop since another term of grad school was starting. I started again recently and blasted through the first 650 at about 100/day. My recall has been at 95%+ for these first 650, so what I learned last time was definitely lurking in my subconscious. I've now got about 3 weeks before I head back to school and I'm hoping I can use that time to get through the last 1350 or so characters. I'm going to do it this time, damn it!

I'm over 650.
From those around 250 I already knew.
This makes around 400 kanji in around 50 days I am in, 8 kanji/day.
At this speed, I will finish no earlier than February
My self imposed deadline is January 1st.
ganbatte minna!

After my third try, I've finally past the 1/4 mark. I'm going at a good pace now, 20 a day, but still frustrated with the time it takes up each day. I should be working harder in University...

Long time lurker, first time poster! I've just hit 500 too a couple of minutes ago, and it does indeed feel good. For me, this past hundred has been my only struggle thus far, and I wasn't progressing nearly as fast as I would of liked, but I'm there now... and feeling good about it all!

Thanks to those who post stories and on here, it's a very encouraging place.

I'm around 580 now. I was getting 15 a day everyday, but since moving in at uni I've had a lot of distractions. The way its going at the moment I'm having to sit down to do them for 2- 3 hour sittings, which can be a real drag. Trying to find ways to make it seem like less of a chore. Breaking it down and what not. I can't do it on the go though because I don't have a phone capable of running anki. On top of that I'm trying to learn the International Phonetic Alphabet for my linguistics course which is proving to be much harder than the kanji and is certainly eating kanji time.

But ONWARDS. The only way is forwards. Victory is the only option :p

I'm up to 690 kanjis but I've been stuck at 690 for 5 days, I didn't had much time since I got married last saturday Big Grin (well, I HAD to say it somewhere Tongue )

I just reached 508 (end of lesson 19 and part 2 of Heisig), so I figured now is a good time to make my first post!

I bought Heisig a looong time ago and stopped around 250 when I first tried it, due to bad review methods. This time around I'm averaging almost 30 kanji a day and my retention rates have been good (88% was my lowest so far). This site has been such a Godsend for me! If it hadn't been for discovering AJATT and Reviewing the Kanji, I would never have tried Heisig again. Now I can't imagine how regrettable that would have been.

Agreed. I was waaay too cautious at first as well. I wish I had known about this site then, so I'd have known it was ok to do more than 5 kanji a day. :S And I could have got more done during my summer holidays.

Woot! 500 for me!

Joined Sept 12, it's October 23 now.. so.. About 40 days do to 500 kanji -- that's like 12 a day! Just a bit over 4 months left to finish! But winter break is in just two more months so I'll probably be done in 2 1/2 Smile
