Everything there is basically first semester Japanese. What exactly are you having trouble understanding?

I'm feeling pretty lazy, but I'll at least throw you the Google Translate because it's *almost* correct.

Here's the grammar used, now improved with Tae Kim links.

それはいい = XはYです。 Genki Chapter 1 (Tae Kim)
どうやって = Genki Chapter 10 (Tae Kim)
もう一つ = Basic Counting (Tae Kim)

Doh, which means he probably didn't see my edit adding the grammar references ... I guess that's lazy karma payback!

I recommend this site instead of Google Translate if you want to go that far.

Edit: Got very slightly less lazy.

もう一つ = Basic Counting (See Tae Kim on Counting)
Wow, you're such a charmer.
So how would you translate it then. Let's hear you.

Original sideways text: !? (as a single character)
tokyostyle's transcription: ?!

Just to confirm: when reading right-to-left, punctuation like this should also be read right-to-left?

It's just a typo on my part.

I also added a period after それはいい because without context that made the most sense.

Since this is a site for learning Japanese I didn't really feel like he was putting in an appropriate amount of effort into learning Japanese. I wasn't being dismissive because he can't understand it, but because it doesn't seem like he was trying very hard.

If you put it into a translator you do get the meaning out. Furthermore if you have honestly studied Japanese you'll have studied 100% of the grammar within the first Genki textbook.

raharney Wrote:So how would you translate it then. Let's hear you.
Something like:

"Yeah, man, I'm totally like down with that and stuff! Can you tell me like how you use actually use an izanagi? It sounds pretty complicated."

"Wait, what ... I need another one first? No one told me that!? LOOK INTO MY BROODING EYES!"

I don't know why it's such a biggie when people ask for a simple translation like that.

It can always be a starting point to discuss various ways that you'd translate the sentence and related grammar points.

I created a new sticky thread for all such requests.

It's pretty healthy I think for a language forum to have such requests.

From here on all such requests are welcome, but should be posted/will be moved to the sticky.
