HOW TO SPEAK? - Eduardo - 2008-01-28 I don?t know how to say a lot of kanjis of the 1? lesson... where can i find them? HOW TO SPEAK? - Transtic - 2008-01-28 Do you have actually any idea of where you are or what are you doing? This site is intended to be used as a complement to James Heisig's book "Remembering the Kanji". As opposed to the bible, you will find some answers on that book. Reading the "Learn more" section of this websites will help you too. By the way, welcome and have a nice learning. Relax folks. I'll have to point all 4 fingers at people from now on. HOW TO SPEAK? - dukelexon - 2008-01-28 I've got to say, TGWeaver, that your severe overreaction to Transtic's post was quite a bit worse than any condescension that Transtic may have been guilty of. Say what you will about the VERY SLIGHT hint of poked fun in Transtic's post, but ... at the very least, Transtic's words were fairly friendly and non-confrontational, were without any sort of "true" malice, and ended with encouragement and simple directions for where the original poster could find more help. Yours, on the other hand, oozed rage and indignation with every little letter. Your post was literally ANGRY, and was a directed strike; Transtic's was barely snarky, at worst, and was well-intended at heart. The "pointing fingers" analogy is all too adequate, in this case. Your list of "four things" would have been an appropriate and accurate response to Transtic had it ended with the first item ... the following three points just got more and more disproportionately vicious, and didn't seem to fit the crime. Calm down a little there, bud. TGWeaver Wrote:4. if you're going to shit on his grammar, check yours first.I also can't really see where Transtic even MENTIONED anyone's grammar. Where did you conjure that from? To Eduardo, the original poster: The very simple answer to your question is that this website (and the book it's based off of) centers around the concept that you shouldn't be worrying about being able to "say," or "read" the kanji ... the idea is to focus only on being able to write and recognize them. My advice is to not even worry about the readings, until you've finished with the basic 2042 in Remembering the Kanji. Once you've done that, there are multiple resources with which you can study readings. HOW TO SPEAK? - Transtic - 2008-01-29 TGWeaver Wrote:1. english is clearly not this fellows first language. cut him some slack.Who has said anything about his English? Quote:2. this website is for support. if you're going to be a troll, find a new place to flame.Ehm... Troll? Flame? Aren't you exaggerating a bit? I know that -the first line of- what I wrote may not have been "nice", but I just pointed out what was apparent. If someone thinks that such an "innocent" commentary is "evil" or "unbearable", well... maybe that person needs to develop a less sensitive personality. Quote:3. what does the bible have to do with anything? were you actually trying to make a point there? because the two books really don't have anything in common. one's an academic book with a minority following, and the other is a book revered by millions of people. The point was that all he asked is answered on the first pages of that book. The reference to the bible, well, I just thought of RTK containing all the answers, and that scene from "The Simpsons: the movie" popped up in my mind (that one when Homer says something like: "This book doesn't have any answer"). Yeah, I know, silly commentary, but I think using Homer as a kanji (夫: husband) may have affected me in some way (o_O) . That was silly if you want, but not offensive at all in my opinion. By the way, Eduardo, if you don't have the book, you can download a free sample which includes the introductions and 100 or 200 kanjis. Quote:4. if you're going to shit on his grammar, check yours first.Ehm... I have nothing against his grammar, nor have I written anything about it. And last, but not least, if you have something against my grammar, let my know. That way I can improve it. HOW TO SPEAK? - Mighty_Matt - 2008-01-29 As far as I'm aware, this is the first pointless argument. These things are inevitable on forums, and you could see it as a good thing, as it means the site and forum are growing ![]() And just remember everyone, written text often doesn't get across the subtle meanings that you might intended (humor, annoyance etc). Always re-read what you've written before pressing that Submit button
HOW TO SPEAK? - Transtic - 2008-01-29 To Eduardo: 1.- Was I really that bad? Because if that's the cause, I would like to know. 2.- I'm sorry that your first post ended up like this, but believe me when I write the following: this community is a very good place to be, so please don't take TGWeaver or my post to heart. Usually everybody here is nice and willing to help. To everybody: I invite you to help Eduardo at the other copy of this thread here . HOW TO SPEAK? - vosmiura - 2008-01-29 I guess TGWeaver got the impression that Transtic's grammar was mocking the OP. Maybe this unfortunate thread should just be deleted?
