I don't know many Japanese songs, but these are some that I listen to WAY TOO MUCH.

Most track titles are in English but the lyrics are all in Japanese.

The singer wrote it after the tsunamis. Great lyrics (he doesn't use any difficult words or grammar or anything but I find the lyrics to be amazing, deep and heart-felt. simple is sometimes the best), great singing ( I love all the little things he does with his voice), great melody.

I also love this song by the band that has the singer above as the vocal.

akb48 has so many songs it's difficult to generalize like that (among the fans they know all about those they perform but are not on any of the CDs). and i'll admit to liking some of them. in fact here's 2 that i've listened a lot because i like them (not because it's popular and the'yre on frikin variety show). i DO UNDERSTAND your pain since they are everywhere... i don't know about nowadays but they definitely were.

The first link is from a pretty popular show 有吉AKB共和国, it's pretty popular. That's an AKB member singing it, don't know if it's a official song however.

Second link is just of one of the more popular members with her own single.

I know that. I used to watch that show, i totally get the lyrics. I just said that because i have no idea if they ever performed that song in the akb concerts since it was made on the show. I know about the seecond one too. I just tacked it on since she is an akb member because it fits the criteria of the thread which is that i listened to it a lot.

I'm in love with 志方あきこ. So many beautiful, touching songs that have seemingly
descended directly from the heavens. She sings mostly in Japanese but also uses a variety of other languages including Italian, Latin, Turkish, Arabic and the fictional language Hymmnos. Her works also include many dark and experimental tracks. The songs that touch me the most convey a deep sense of despair and hope at the same time.

Then there's Love Solfege, a rather unique neoclassical 同人 circle. In particular I really like these ones, this awesome Italian opera piece and their great Russian songs.

I also listen to 東方 Project derived music way more than what's probably healthy for a human being but that's mostly instrumental only, so I'll restrain myself since this is a songs thread. Still, I can't resist linking this violin/piano piece, it's just too beautiful ;_;

Most anime songs I like don't survive for long after I finish watching the show, but notable exceptions are this ending and this opening.

I really can't find much Japanese music I like. Generally what you hear everyday around Japan is way worse than the pop music you would hear everyday in America or England...

But, somehow I completely fell in love with Yuki. Maybe it's my love of singers that sing slightly flat? I like this the best of her videos, but sadly it's just the first couple min:



One of the songs I've listened to the most is an old old Okinawan song, which I've probably posted somewhere here before, called Asadoya Yunta. This version by coi-na is crazy good. However, only the verses are in understandable Japanese (since the chorus is an old Okinawan language).



One of my favorite Japanese rock tracks is Get Up Lucy, from a rare real rock band in Japan:

i'm not sure, but it seems to me that some things don't translate well to certain cultures. like hip hop in the east or cosplay in the west.
