Keyword Test - stehr - 2008-01-27 Hi everybody, I completed RTK1 using all of Heisig's keywords about two/three months ago and review on this site about once a week. Today, I happened upon The Kanji Game and I noticed that it does not use Heisig's keywords, often completely different definitions. So in response to a number of people disagreeing with Heisig's choice of keywords posted here and elsewhere around the net I decided to test myself on how accurate/important they really are using The Kanji Game, choosing "test all" (1005 character test), and seeing how well I could place. Here's the results; First time using the program: -Kanji - English -Time elapsed; 2 hours -1005 characters -Grade; A (91-95% I think?) -Within the incorrect answers probably 60-80% of those I had forgotten the Heisig Keywords of entirely. -There were about 7-10 characters which had totally different keywords than Heisig that I had to basically relearn as I took the test. Given all that my opinion still stands that the keywords are not terribly important in the long run, not nearly as much as the shapes and "fundamental" meanings of the characters, which naturally translate into other definitions as encountered. I was actually really shocked at how well I did (was betting on a C) and would like to know if any other graduates have tried this out. Please share your scores, thanks. EDIT: greetings Keyword Test - JimmySeal - 2008-01-27 Whoever came up with that color scheme clearly doesn't have eyes. I applaud you for looking at that screen for a full 2 hours. |
