JIS and new jouyou kanji - Soul_Reaver - 2013-09-27 Hey there, so I know that this topic has been discussed numerous times already however I'm still a bit confused. I already know that according to JIS 2004 many non-jouyou kanji have been revised to use a unsimplified form of certain radicals (like the road radical) which often differs only by the addition or removal of a single stroke. However now that I study those remaining jouyou kanji that aren't included in RTK1 I came across those unsimplified forms as well: E.g.: 箸, 捗, 餌 The font that I use (and the Japanese online sources that I used) display those kanji with their unsimplified form and said Japanese sources list them as standard form. On the contrary jisho.org shows those kanji with their simplified form. So what's going on here? Haven't those 2010 jouyou-kanji just not been simplified yet or will they ever be? It's quite confusing... JIS and new jouyou kanji - yudantaiteki - 2013-09-27 It is confusing, and the Joyo list doesn't really clear up the confusion. I think they realize on some level that it makes no sense for people to have to remember whether a kanji is on the joyo list or not to be able to write it correctly, but they're not quite sure what to do with the situation. The current list seems to say that either form is OK but the language they use is hard to interpret. JIS and new jouyou kanji - Soul_Reaver - 2013-09-28 So it's not clear if the 2010 jouyou kanji will be simplified as well? It's stupid enough to have jouyou kanji use a different form than non-jouyou kanji but it's even more inconvenient that not even the jouyou kanji are fully consistent. Btw, I don't have access to Windows right now, can someone tell me if the Windows default font (MS Mincho?) displays the simplified form of the new jouyou kanji?
