Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - Xanpakuto - 2013-08-14 So I decided to give RTK a go, I tried it a couple months back but it just didn't fit. I'm just going to suck it up and go 30 a day. It's been working so far (second day -_-, already know like all of these kanji in the vocabulary I learned), however I just can't seem to remember the stories so well and heck they relate pretty darn well to the kanji. I remember the keyword with its corresponding kanji well, is this going to hurt in the long run? Edit: I think I'm going to instead do 60 a day and take a break from Tae kim and Genki and just stick to listening practice. I tried the practice JLPT 5 and 4 questions and aced all the reading and grammar stuff.... failed the listening. So I guess I'm going to go back to the dramas and animes I've been watching and try to finish this RTK Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - EratiK - 2013-08-14 Don't worry, stories are only here to help you draw the kanji, and are supposed to be forgotten in the long-run. What is important is to remember the kanji. That said you might experience trouble because of how you apply the method. Remember Heisig's imaginative method is to remember the story in the form of an image, not in the form of sentences. Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - Xanpakuto - 2013-08-14 Thanks, I'm really excited now to finish all of these kanjis. So tempted to do more than 60 a day but have a feeling reviews will eat me alive later. Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - TwoMoreCharacters - 2013-08-15 How are you reviewing? Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - Xanpakuto - 2013-08-15 Front: Keyword Back: Kanji and stories Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - yudantaiteki - 2013-08-15 It could hurt in the long run. In my experience, people can usually learn 100-300 kanji no matter what method they're using, no matter how inefficient or misguided. I don't have enough experience with Heisig to know how necessary the stories are, but I know it's a key part of his method. It may be that it won't cause you any problems at first, but in the long run will become a barrier. Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - Xanpakuto - 2013-08-15 Once I got to the kanji I haven't been seeing with the vocabulary I knew, the stories became extremely helpful. So far my retention rate is 100%, but yeah that's only for the first 150 and second day so I expect it to drop a bit later this week. Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - KanjiMood - 2013-08-16 Wrap the story as a hint. In your card template: {{hint:Story}} then you just need to click show story to display it when you need it. I don't really remember most of the stories for the kanji I know really well. Is it bad that I just can't remember stories for RTK - muteki99 - 2013-08-16 If you can remember the story and the kanji, great. If you can remember just the kanji, great. If you can do neither based on the keyword then I would fail the card. Ultimately your success with RTK should (IMO) be determined by your vocab retention rate, not Heisig keyword recognition. 8 months or so after finishing RTK I can probably only remember half the stories, but I don't really care at this point since my vocab retention is pretty good. |
