Aegisub is certainly what you want.
Sync the beginning, then you want to sync from current selection forward, shifting backwards anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes. (I guess in your case you should add from selection forward.) These times are usually fixed for an entire series. 1:30 is a good one to try first. I dont have a computer in front of me so it is a bit hard for me to go into details. I guess I should make a tutorial for this sometime soon.
If you know what you are doing you can hunt and peck for the correct time for the next subtitle, and shift all the subtitles following it, but that is a bit more advanced.

This is not to say that all such rentals -are- legal and licensed, but some are.

What would have been useful is a way to say, "Hey, take the current timing on this sub and apply its change from the original to all those following". I couldn't find that item and from the manual it doesn't appear that there is one.
