Do you give choco back to your students? - Marumaru - 2013-02-20

Some of my juku students gave me choco for valentine's and I was wondering what's the protocol for this case? Do I give back next month to them? Even to the 5 year olds? I don't have a problem with it, I just want to know if it's normal or whatnot.

Ask your employer.

Yeah, you should ask your employer, since there might be rules about giving food to students. But if food is not okay and other things are I would give a small non-food gift, like a sticker or something for the youngins.

I always have this problem where students in the hallways give me chocolates, and I have no idea who they are because there are more than 1000 students at my school and I obviously don't teach everyone. So they never get anything back, haha.

But not the students, don't eat the students. Eat the chocolates. Eating people is a social faux pas in Japan.

Really? I thought you just became a minor TV/talk show celebrity for eating people in Japan.
