Well, spreadsheets on Google... but I'll eventually share the Anki deck too. This is a colaborative project, anyone can post their own spreadsheets.

The reason for this is:

1. that the language used in the songs is a nice changeup compared to most of the textbook-like resources beginners get their sentences from (there's a lot of colorful terms and kanji related to nature, feelings, movement, music - but all simple Kanji that's in RtK, mostly RtK1). But, at the same time, it's easy language for lower-intermediate level and up. Beginners can navigate through it too, with a little effort. It's definitely easier than the 400th to 600th sentences in Core2000.

2. you don't need to memorize the words, listening to the songs over and over again will do that for you instead. You just need to know what the Kanji refer to (and you already know that, if you did RtK). So it's more like immersion than study.

These are the four songs I added so far, and the spreadsheet for them:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjWhKaQ5gIT_dG51UXY3b04yMXFDOEdFSF9wMXhWUnc

Kanon Wakeshima (off the album "Shinshoku Dolce"):

1. Monochrome Frame (
- link's just so you know what to expect- don't be a dick, buy the songs - but if you don't, they're on youtube -youtube videos can be converted into mp3, there are sites that do that)
2. Skip, Turn, Step
3. Kagami

Aya Ueto:

4. Kizuna

Here are another two songs, added by undead_saif , and the link to the spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjWhKaQ5gIT_dHNidFZuTDc3eUZ0dWZ0d3VzWUNkeVE

1. X-Japan : Rusty Nail (
)
2. Disgaea OST # 22 Battle Comrade

Here are another three songs, added by me on Feb. 2, 2013, and the link to the spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjWhKaQ5gIT_dHBwZmF3cmVWYWFwcjRZZFlReFA5Wnc&usp=sharing

1. Nanase Aikawa - Yumemiru Shoujo Ja Irarenai
2. Nanase Aikawa - Ima Demo
3. Kanon Wakeshima - Maboroshi (this one has some difficult lines, might wanna skip it until you're ready)

Format:
1. Kanji_lyrics (broken up by sentence, not necessarily line)
2. Hiragana reading.
3. English translation.

Quality:
I think it's good. The lyrics are accurate. The reading is accurate, there's some use of o, e, wa, instead of the wo, he, ha particles. Translation is copy/pasted from various sources around the net, but I did go over them for the most part, they're quite good.

If anyone wants to add a song, please post the name (make sure it's available for purchase and/or on youtube). If the song fits (the only criteria are easy to hear lyrics and a tolerable melody), post the song names and the spreadsheet (or even just a csv file or anki deck), and I'll add links and the names to this post.

If you're downloading and using this resource, please post about it. Otherwise we won't know whether there's a point to keep adding songs or not.

P.S.
If you're thinking about ankifying YOUR favorite songs, you should know that it's not that hard. Everything you need is likely available online already. The lyrics are definitely just a google search away.

There are sites like http://www.kiwi-musume.com/lyrics/lyrics.html and youtube that also have a lot of English translations.

So it's all basically copy/paste + a little oversight to make sure the translations aren't misleading.

What a coincident! I was going to share two songs I've prepared with the local community of Japanese learners, and here I find your thread!

This is the link to my spreadsheet, copy as you wish!

Thanks, these look great.

I copied the spreadsheet to my account too (but left it separate, this way people can pick and choose what they download), and updated the OP with the link and the two songs.

To buy actual sheet music, try http://www.print-gakufu.com and http://www.at-elise.com

at-elise.com works with foreign credit cards. I've never gotten anything to work with print-gakufu.com.

Don't forget to search in Japanese. I'm not sure if romaji works on both sites.

Great idea. In fact, I did something very similar to this for myself about a year ago.
I'd take a song (mostly JPop or intro/ending songs to anime I was watching) and then pop it into AegisSub, copy the full list of lyrics and paste it in, then sync the timings for my mp3s, throw it all into subs2srs and Bob's your uncle.

The "context" feature was very useful.

I added a spreadsheet with three more songs, and modified the first post accordingly. Now there are three different spreadsheets, with a total of 9 songs and almost 200 facts.

The first post contains links to each spreadsheet, and it lists the songs in each spreadsheet.

As an aside, you should study the songs first (go over the lyrics, the translation in the deck, as you listen to the songs, a few times), don't try to learn the deck by doing Anki reps alone. Anki should just be used to finish the job once you're pretty familiar with the songs, and to keep what you learned fresh in the long term.

I personally think that you don't even need to make/do a deck bc most of the song lyrics repeat sometimes the exact phrase especially if you listen to hundreds or thousands of songs. What I did a long time ago was go through the many many many songs with rikai-chan + my knowledge of japanes grammar from tae kim but I didn't make an anki deck out of it... I just think there's no need b.c. it's so common for the most part

You make a good point. However, not everyone is quite at a point where they've gone through Tae Kim and also have enough vocab to be able to follow the lyrics (even with Rikaichan). This is meant to be a precursor to that. These songs are pretty typical, and learning the lyrics properly will add the kind of vocab needed to be able to start to understand other songs as well, and in general to follow their rhythm.

Personally, I've stopped adding song lyrics to Anki, and moved on to reading through the lyrics of songs I have on my Ipod, with Yomichan (add-on for Anki 2 is out, btw.), a lot like you suggested. However, I do add key vocab to Anki from it (somewhere between 5 and 15 words / song). Then, I look up example sentences for those words, and replace the word with the sentence, in each Anki question (with emphasis on the word from the song). This way, I'm learning the reading of the words by listening to the songs, and the writing and an additional, more grammatically proper usage with Anki (the biggest pain in the ass, when doing pre-made decks with Anki, is not the figuring out the meaning of a word based on its writing, but trying to remember the reading - this method eliminates that problem almost entirely: listening to the songs makes me remember the lyrics without ever making any effort).

A potential improvement on this method, that I'm considering, would be having the question like this:
日本に 来る 方は インフルエンザに [ちゅうい]して ください。
And the answer like this:
注意 + translation or Japanese description of the word

(where 注意 is the word the note is centered on). I believe this will make it easier to learn the writing, without affecting the speed with which I'm reviewing cards.

I'm probably going to stick with this method right up until I'm comfortable reading novels. Since I'm almost done with Tae Kim, and I'm also going to finish Core2k in the near future (but without quite a few hundred, maybe even a thousand, sentences deleted on account that they're not n+1 or they just annoy me), I believe these three sources will give me a well rounded vocab and grammar knowledge, and prepare me for the most important part of this whole Nihongo business: reading novels and watching television until I'm fluent.

Maybe, if I feel that I need it, I'm also going to give Subs2Srs a try, do an anime or two with it. But, if I do, I'm also planning to use Anki in conjunction with my Ipod (by listening to the audio, just like with the songs, to make remembering the readings automatic).

P.S. I figured I'd add this epilogue to the thread, in case anyone stumbles on it later and wonders what happened. The post will also serve as a plan of action, for me (it helps me to write down exactly what I plan on doing, rather than just jump into it - doing it publicly helps me to commit even more, even if no one ever reads it). But feel free to continue posting your own song decks, if you have them. Not so that people will go through all of them, but so that they can pick and choose which to go with.

Gendou.com has RO KA EN lyrics.

Ok. Just skip the RO part.

Only anime songs though.

This is the idea for me too!
