Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-03 Hey guys, a long time ago I promised i'd have something for you guys... and now I do! I've built a media player specifically designed for learning language. Of course it supports Japanese but it also supports a whole lot of other languages. Easy right click access to find lyrics, right click access to the best online dictionaries, add pronounciations, meanings, example sentences to known words. Known words get highlighted in the lyrics so you can visually see how much you do and don't know. Libraries are separated based on target language too to make it easier to organize your music. Perhaps best of all... integration with Anki! Export your vocab list and easily import it straight into Anki. It's just in beta right now but I really want you guys to test it and let me know what you think! ![]() Get it at http://supernewsoftware.com/index.php Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-04 Hey guys, just an update... I've tested this as much as possible (well, not enough really!) under Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) and Windows 7 and it all seems to working ok on those systems. I don't have a Mac to test it on so it looks like there are some bugs on Mac that users are experiencing. Just really interested to know if anyone (as well as Linux and Windows users) has downloaded it and given it a try? Is everything working? I'm quite nervous about this... been working really hard on it and like I said, i've tested it as much as possible so I know it works well on both my Ubuntu and my Windows 7 box but without a full test suite it's impossible to know if there are issues on other systems... so I NEED FEEDBACK! Immersion Media Player - ryuudou - 2013-01-04 Sounds useful. I haven't used it yet, but I'll have to try it out in a bit. I'll update this post later with my thoughts. It will likely be getting a spot in my Japanese tools collection, so thank you.
Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-04 Thank you so much! I hope it works well for you. Also let me know if you have any feature requests or anything. I'm planning on actively developing it for the next 12 months to turn it into a really awesome study tool. Planning on releasing weekly updates too. Got some features planned like adding in Kanji stats and JLPT vocab lists by level so you can see how much you do and don't know out of what levels. Possibly do the same for KanKen with the Kanji as well. Like I said, if you think of any features you want/need just let me know and if I can manage to include then I absolutely will. This community helped me out so much when I was learning Japanese I just wanna give back as much as possible. Thanks guys. Immersion Media Player - RoyalBlue - 2013-01-04 Really love the idea. Going to check it asap after I get home and have some sleep. Kudos for the effort. : ) Immersion Media Player - jmignot - 2013-01-05 I have tried on a Mac, but could not import a test mp3 file into the database. The file/import dialog opens but, when I select the .mp3 file and click "choose", nothing appears in the main window. What am I doing wrong ?… Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-05 I haven't had a chance to test on Mac yet as I don't have access to one so thanks for the feedback. I'll be able to gain access to a Mac in the next week or two to work out any bugs it may have there. I can think of one thing that may possibly be happening. It's a known bug that I'm going to fix in the next release. If you try to import an mp3 with no id3 tags it wont import correctly so it could possibly be that? Will definitely fix that bug in the next release. Did you try importing other files? Immersion Media Player - RoyalBlue - 2013-01-05 When trying to download my AntiVirus blocks the site and doesn't allow it. I'm using Avast AntiVirus It's the same with both of the files. Immersion.zip Immersion.tar.gz URL: http://www.supernewsoftware.com/download... Infektion: Win32:Malware-gen When using VirusTotal to scan the site it shows this. Looks like Avast doesn't like your software : ( https://www.virustotal.com/url/45dd1478be98fb214b2c97a0e7b11ab7d47dd7400edd64cfb15e8ee67c4e34d3/analysis/1357391054/ Oh and here is the report for the file: https://www.virustotal.com/file/a136fda0c2e0c9da3dae580e267fe2d7716ae8273c53dfaddc8042c299be44fa/analysis/1357391067/ Immersion Media Player - Zgarbas - 2013-01-05 Same here, also with Avast. Immersion Media Player - mourei - 2013-01-05 Tried it on OSX, can't open stuff with id3 tags. I guess depending on your moral stance, you could try running OSX in a VM for testing purposes. Not sure how well it runs or how easy it is to set up, though. Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-05 mourei Wrote:Tried it on OSX, can't open stuff with id3 tags.Yeah, I think that might be a good idea actually. Thanks! Hmm yeah it seems Mac version is not supported very well at all (so much for Java's Write once run anywhere). Though it's working fine under Ubuntu and Windows 7 for me. Hmm... I'll have to wait a week or two to get hold of a friends Mac so I can see what I can do about it. Also, thanks for posting the links to the Antivirus reports. That's quite surprising. Um... hmm just trying to think what would cause those alarm bells to ring. It's certainly not programmed to do anything malicious... AV checks for signatures of known mailicious code and if they find something similar they flag it. I noticed it flagged a lot of different things which seems odd to me... There are two things I can think of... one would be that it checks http://www.supernewsoftware.com/immersion/version.txt on startup to see if it matches the current version (for auto-updates)... the other thing I can think of and will check ASAP is the authoring tool I used to generate the run.exe file for the windows version. I would hope to god it didn't put any nasty stuff in there but i'll check it out as soon as possible and identify the problem. Thanks for the heads up. Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-05 Ok so... turns out it was the run.exe that was causing the problems! Shit... thanks a tonne guys for alerting me to this! I would have missed it otherwise. I removed the run.exe and rescanned the file and it came up clean. So i'll just have to remove it from the package. Users can still double click the .jar to run it but seeing as most windows users are familiar with .exe files I thought that might be easier. Turns out not to have been such a good idea. Sorry. Will remove it and upload the new Immersion.zip right away. https://www.virustotal.com/file/c733cede3ac30587499ccbf0a93ae3715178ed1ca158393bba9f703305de8720/analysis/ edit: I've update the site to reflect that Mac is currently not supported until further testing/bug fixes. Will remedy this as soon as I can get my hands on a Mac. Will also look into setting up a OSX in a VM as to have the facility to be able to test it on Mac too. Immersion Media Player - RoyalBlue - 2013-01-05 Thanks! Working stable now, and looking good. One suggestion I have is regarding "Find lyrics online" Is it possible to use google from the country whose language you're learning. Using the button I only get Chinese translations of the lyrics, not the Japanese. I've tried it with Japanese songs of course. After googling it manually on google.co.jp the first hit were the correct Japanese lyrics. Second would be FLAC support, but I don't know how hard that is to add. Otherwise good work, looking forward to any further updates : ) Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-05 RoyalBlue Wrote:Thanks! Working stable now, and looking good.Awesome! Thank you very much. Yeah, with regards to the find lyrics online, I was going to make it do that. Don't know why I didn't seeing as I encountered the same problem myself during testing! I'm writing a small update now so I'll make sure I include that. Thanks for reminding me. As soon as I get it stable and change a few things here and there I can definitely look at adding FLAC support! I really want to add support for as many formats as possible but it's quite a lot of work to do so, hence I'm just trying to the basics working all smoothly and then soon as I can add in all the extra stuff. Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-08 Just released a new update. 1.1.2.4! Now includes rikai-chan style mouse over look ups of known words you've added to your wordlist. Also you can now add a reading for the example sentence (don't know why I didn't think to add it the first time). I've been using this to study Chinese for the last week. Fantastic for building a vocab and sentence deck simultaneous as it works in perfect with Anki. Feels much more complete now with the rikai-chan style look ups feature in there too now!!! Immersion Media Player - Sizen - 2013-01-28 I don't know if it's because I'm running windows 8 or not (I had thought it was backwards compatible...?), but I haven't been able to make the player work properly. I tried adding many mp3s but only managed to get about half of an album to read (the first half of the album was mp4s, so it's not the player's fault). Looking at this thread, I thought I'd mess around with id3 tags to see if that would work, so I removed the tags on a few mp3s, and then I could play them... but they were all called "UNKNOWN" and it was impossible to edit their information in the player. Also, I could only keep one song per language. I'm going to break out my laptop in the near future to see if it's a problem with my files or my OS. Anyway, it's been great for the songs I have got to work, and I'm looking for to using it a lot more when it will work on my computer. Immersion Media Player - mezbup - 2013-01-29 Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah! Mp4 isn't currently supported. Also, I will get round to fixing the problem with "UNKNOWN" tags. This is a known bug and happens when something either doesn't have id3tags or is missing a bit of data from them. Anyways, it's not so hard for me to fix and I'll probably try to push out an update this weekend. I've been super busy with lots of stuff recently but I'll try to include some more stuff in the update that's related to Japanese in particular. Specifically Kanji stats and the like! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for the support! |
