JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2012-12-04 JtMW Anki Deck: http://www.mediafire.com/download/bn3zm8dnwbifoc4/Japanese_the_Manga_Way.anki JtMW Anki Deck Media Folder: http://www.mediafire.com/download/c9u09v5ccxwpkgx/JtMW_collection.media.rar After doing a bit of searching about the site it seems that in patches here and there, there has been the idea of someone making an Anki deck for the great book "Japanese the Manga Way." Well, over the past week I have done just that, complete with images and hover over furigana, however... it was created using the older desktop version of Anki and I didn't create an account before (and are no longer able to). So, my question is that if I upgrade to Anki 2, will this deck remain as is, integrated into the newer format, or will it be scrapped AND, is there anyone else currently out there who would like to use this deck for study purposes? I'm fine with using it myself, but wouldn't mind being able to "give back" to the community as a whole in some respect. (^_^)ー自”自ー(^_^) EDIT: Sorry about forgetting to link the media folder. Oops. >_> -_o <_< ...hmm... it already has a bunch of downloads, so I must have posted it somewhere. The question is where. いや、恥ずかしいっス JtMW Anki Deck - netsplitter - 2012-12-04 Your existing Anki 1 data will remain untouched, so it won't bork anything. Usually, it will convert it just fine, so just give it a try it. You might even like it. Was mainly a little worried about having to start over again with the deck, having spent over 95 hours in the past somewhat sleepless week creating it. JtMW Anki Deck - Savii - 2012-12-05 Also, Anki 1 and Anki 2 store their decks in a different way, and Anki 2 won't modify the original files. If the conversion screws something up, you can still use the original with Anki 1. Of course making a backup beforehand is still recommended; always the best way to make sure no data is lost. As for the deck, I say go ahead and put it on AnkiWeb2 as a shared deck! You went through quite a bit of effort to create it, so it'd be nice if other people could boost their Japanese studies with your work too, right? That's how I always feel about it anyway. And it's not like you lose anything if it turns out there's not much interest. I think it was done before by the way, a JtMW deck, but it wasn't very polished and far from complete (just the first chapters). Your deck could be a great help to people working with JtMW. I'm pretty curious myself too (having just finished JtMW) though I probably won't use it for reviews since I prefer spending that time reading native materials. JtMW Anki Deck - s0apgun - 2012-12-05 I'd love a deck for this book! Thought about doing the same thing myself.
JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2012-12-05 I've updated to Anki 2 (looks rather nice and flashy) yet all of the furigana appear as per example: "人[ひと]の事[こと]、陰[かげ]で悪わるく言[い]っちゃいけないわ。" *with the related manga image below the sentence/fragment* As opposed to the original in which those featured hiragana only appeared if you were to hover the cursor over the individual kanji. I have it all typed in a word file before I altered it during the deck creation, as such for the above example: "人の事、陰で悪わるく言っちゃいけないわ。" ひと の こと、 かげ で わるく いっちゃ いけない わ。" *with the related English break-down/literal translation/natural adapted translation, below* So technically all the data is still present, along with back-ups of both media folders, wordpad text files, and related Anki deck. I've installed the Japanese Support addon in Anki 2, and I know I should be posting this question in the Google groups, however, this issue has already been brought to light and the creator directed the individual to the add-on page which states furigana is automatically created but no mention of "hover-over/cursor over" support. My question is, it is possible to upload the original Anki 1 deck to a media-file server (megaupload, or which ever popular ones which haven't been shut-down yet) for anyone to download and import into their Anki 1 desktop, if they so which to use it, as opposed to using the Anki download interface? I don't know about computers enough to be honest (regardless of being attached as though it were a third arm), or Anki. ~After switching half-way through Tae Kim's guide to Japanese the Manga Way, I must say that I am extremely content with this book and would love others to be able to use an accompanying study deck to get as much out of it as I have so far (just having to read through the questions, write them out and convert them to Anki gave me great insights to Japanese sentence patterns and increased my vocabulary and that's without even really getting to sit down and properly read through it. Such a great, simple yet interesting structure for a text-book-esque language guide). Sorry, I'm probably taking this all a bit too far. I though sentences in Core2k6k were going to be a good reinforcement but it seems they cover basic grammar only, no relative clauses for example, so I will check the sentences in JtMW too! Thanks for the effort. JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2012-12-05 Changed back to Anki 1 and uploaded the deck to Mediafire: http://www.mediafire.com/?bn3zm8dnwbifoc4 The file is part of a drop-box (or something) folder which means anyone can alter the file and upload a newer version (I think). Anyway, if anyone feels the urge to take a look, I would greatly appreciate it you could tell me if the images or the furigana doesn't work properly. They should (I guess- the deck itself contains all the media and formatting, but I've never made a deck before). JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2012-12-05 undead_saif Wrote:Thanks for the tip! If money or ordering is an issue there are *taps nose* cheaper (digital) copies available online- or so I've been told. JtMW Anki Deck - netsplitter - 2012-12-05 You're supposed to prefix the field with "furigana:" in the template to get furigana now instead of using a plugin, so you must do {{furigana:Expression}}. However, this still isn't what you wanted, since it doesn't do the hover thing. I'm sure I can re-create it with a bit of javascript. Give me some minutes. (The images should work if you place them in collection.media, which it should have done for you. The file you uploaded doesn't have media; it's just an anki deck.) Edit: Okay, this should work. In the card editor, make sure your front template uses furigana. E.g., Code: <span style="font-family: Mincho; font-size: 30px; ">{{furigana:Expression}}</span>Code: ruby rtAlso you can pick whatever fancy colours you want by changing the background-color properties. I skimmed through the deck and it seems pretty good otherwise. In anki 2 you can simply export to a .apkg which will include all the media automatically, otherwise zipping and putting on mediafire would always work. JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2013-06-01 Fixed it up in the OP. Er, bringing this thread up reminds me I'm not really happy with the deck and have to get around to cleaning it up sometime. JtMW Anki Deck - psychopatate - 2013-06-02 What some luck ! I started studying Japanese the Manga Way today and looked for an Anki deck here, and voila ! It's just been updated yesterday ^^ ! Thanks a lot ^^ JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2013-06-02 ^If anyone is to thank, it's Wayne P. Lammers and Damien Elmes. It is a fun book, I hope you enjoy reading it.
JtMW Anki Deck - s0apgun - 2013-10-15 How's this looking for Anki 2? What do I need to do? Sorry if you stated it already in the thread. JtMW Anki Deck - uisukii - 2013-10-15 The Anki 1 file imports into Anki 2 fine, and the images will should up as long as you download the related media folder and copy/place the media into your Anki 2 media collection folder, however... the original Anki 1 deck was created entirely in a text document and copy/pasted into Anki, for each card, so it is kind of a mess, which I'm not all too pleased about. After exporting the file into a spreadsheet and cleaned it up a little, there still needs some work for user friendly editing (hate using someone else's deck when it is all over the place once exported into a spreadsheet; if it cannot be easily edited then it's kind of pointless). The spreadsheet can be found as a google spreadsheet (link below) It isn't all that bad at the moment. The main issue is that some of the dialogue in some cards involve multiple persons, and the different text is instead of defined as two separate lines/ fragments of speech on the one field, it flows over into the next column/field. A few of those need to be cleaned up and reimplemented so there is a issue free import of Expression/ Reading, Image, English-Transliteration, English translation, and Politeness level. The current deck as all of that rolled into two fields (I think), which is not nice if you want to make bulk edits. Some entries didn't have (possibly up to 20 cards?) any related comic image, so they were removed from the spreadsheet. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjELSdQModZFdFBRV3ZoZHBoX0lRbV9PRHFteHpuNkE&usp=sharing You might want to download the original (and media folder) and also download the spreadsheet. That way if it doesn't turn out properly on Anki 2 at least you have all the raw data organised (just needs tweaking) ready to import in a manner you may prefer. |
