New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - chamcham - 2007-12-14 Well...I don't know how "NEW" these are, but I think they are so great. Take a look at these: New Handwritten Kanji interface: http://kanji.sljfaq.org/draw.html Multi-radical kanji lookup: http://kanji.sljfaq.org/mr.html The multi-radical lookup is especially impressive. You can turn radicals on and off. Also, when you choose a radical, it automatically removes radical that don't co-exist with the ones that you've chosen. Very nice. The most amazing thing about the interface is that there are no menus and you don't move to any other pages. It's all on one page. Combined with Rikaichan, I think this beats any electronic dictionary in terms of looking up individual kanji. I wonder how well these work on the iPhone. New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - Codexus - 2007-12-14 That multi-radical lookup is much easier to use that the default one. Thanks for the links! New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - dwhitman - 2007-12-14 The new multi-radical search is *wonderful*. The organization by position is a much more intuitive than stroke count (and within a position, stroke count is still available to fine tune). And the greying out of incompatible radicals after you start choosing is brilliant - makes searches MUCH faster. I love this. Hoping that the author of Wakan does something similar for off-line use. New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - Kurosawa - 2007-12-14 Hm, I'm on a Windows XP box, Unicode fonts installed, never had any problem with a program or website showing Kanji & Kana but on that radical page all I'm getting is an inferno of cryptic nonsense. Looks like an encoding problem... or do I need a special font for showing radicals? New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - Codexus - 2007-12-14 Are you using Internet Explorer? I've loaded it in different browsers and it seems that IE fails to properly recognize the character encoding for that page. Either manually switch to UTF-8 or use a better browser
New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - radical_tyro - 2007-12-14 It's not so much a browser problem. I had to manually set my browser (Safari) to UTF-8 as well. I'm not surprised, given the page header is Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"Code: <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - ruisu - 2007-12-14 Pretty neat...but the IME Pad is much more forgiving. New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - radical_tyro - 2007-12-14 The multi radical lookup is sweet, but it looks like for the handwriting recognition he ripped off http://chasen.org/~taku/software/ajax/hwr/ New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - suffah - 2007-12-14 chamcham Wrote:I wonder how well these work on the iPhone.Handwriting page won't work, it loads but when you try to draw the phone thinks you are trying to reposition the screen... Major encoding problems on the multi-radical search page. It functions, and the kanji that appear are perfectly fine, but the radicals themselves are screwy. New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - ファブリス - 2007-12-14 Yeah I remember posting a link here to that "ajax" kanji recognition page. I thought maybe the author of the other lookup got in touch and got just the necessary code. Similarly, the multi radical lookup, I'd swear I've seen it posted here before, it was a really nice looking page, in colour. I clearly remember the list of radicals was at the bottom, and this site also had a nice looking dictionary lookup from EDICT. I'm a little puzzled, but good stuff nonetheless. Web 2.0 go-go! New Features Linked at Jim Breen's Dictionary - chamcham - 2007-12-16 Too bad it doesn't work so well on the iPhone.... :-( I'm not sure if the webpage is derived from the other sites mentioned. Either way, it's still really useful. |
