行 Primitive - Going, Line, Column help - tguk911 - 2012-11-11 I'm having problems with this primitive it has so many different meanings and you learn them all at once. I think it would have been better if he introduced this earlier and then placed a couple here or there as you learned more primitives. I know learning a bunch at once can help a certain primitive stick in your mind so you don't have to even think about it anymore but this one is giving me some trouble on anki. I looked at a couple other posts on here with some suggestions but didn't see any I really liked so if anyone has an idea of a new one that they use or just came up with one now besides the flash or train; it would be most appreciated 行 Primitive - Going, Line, Column help - ryuudou - 2012-11-11 Simply learn it as "going". A majority of the time it's used it will be in condensed form such as the left of 後. I usually reasoned it out to be one or more of the primitives were going somewhere. Don't fret! 行 Primitive - Going, Line, Column help - Chigun - 2012-11-11 I threw "line" out completely as it seemed unnecessary. 行 in its entirety is not very common. I personally remembered it as 行く ("iku") as it's a ridiculously common JP word and can help avoid confusion with anything else. That leaves the abbreviated form on the left. I use both "going" and "column" as there are stories that having one or the other is very convenient for memory IMO. A column is a very concrete image and can help reduce the number of more abstract "going" stories. "Going" is good if it makes a lot of sense in the story, though this can't always be easily accomplished. 'Course just using one meaning for every instance of 行 is possible and a choice you can make. I wish you the best. 行 Primitive - Going, Line, Column help - tguk911 - 2012-11-12 Thanks guys for your input. Yea I might just turn it into going even though it's kinda abstract as long as I remember iku it will prob come to me. But I also was searching the meanings of some radicals and this one came up as "step, loiter, and linger" everywhere online and on my dictionary for my ipad. So I might try to use "loiter" cause it will probably stick in my mind better than "going". They also have the primitive for "eye" when it's turned on it's side as "net" (i.e 買) which I do find it easy to remember eye but sometimes I just remember the primitive meaning and don't know if its on it's side which a different primitive would help but I made a lot of stories already. But Heisig does this with so many other primitives I wonder why he didn't with that one. Also they have "strike and attack" for taskmaster which I personally like Heisigs better. Also I see the "house and human legs" (i.e 窓) as hole which I think I'm going to start using cause I saw the kanji that use it and it could def make the stories easier. But all the others are pretty much the same or better for Heisigs versions. |
