Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - chamcham - 2012-11-14 So basically: 1)Use Tenso.com to get a Japanese mailing address 2)AFAIK, any Kindle paperwhite is fine. But maybe get a Japanese Kindle Paperwhite , send it to your Tenso address and have it shipped to you wherever 3)Set up a Japanese proxy to buy Kindle books on your PC. 4)Merge Amazon accounts using your Japanese mailing address I wonder if it's possible to use proxy servers directly on a Kindle Paperwhite. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - apirx - 2012-11-14 Forgot to mention something: The dictionary on my kindle android app doesn't recognize conjugated verbs or adjectives. At all. So far it's been only useful for compound nouns and adverbs. It only recognizes verbs and adjectives in dictionary form, which is really beyond annoying. I find myself tabbing out to a real dictionary app all the time. Also the readings it produces are sometimes really off. It seems to produce on-readings no matter what, for example, looking up 肌 shows き as the first result. Of course the kun-reading is on the full dictionary page, but not on the pop-up. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does the paperwhite dictionary behave differently? Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - ta12121 - 2012-11-14 Hey guys got a question. The kindle paperwhite hasn't been released in Canada(kinda ironic when you think about it). Anyhow, is it a smart move to just buy the American one? (though a shipping service) and then directly get it shipped to where I live or just get the JPN one from japan. Edit: It seems that any kindle is fine but it will require tweaking to get access/purchase books though amazon jp. I figure there's probably some kind of ID in each Kindle that identifies what country it is from. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - AkiKazachan - 2012-11-16 Does anyone know if Japanese ebooks are supported on the original Kindle Fire? Basically, only the Kindle models shown on the http://www.amazon.co.jp homepage. I then setup my purchases with my US credit card for my Japanese account -- no problem. Purchased a Japanese ebook and it went straight from the cloud to my iPod and it works. I can still access all of my US books and things seem good. Daijirin even downloaded and installed. Looks pretty sweet. Can you switch switch back and forth from the .co.jp store? I'm learning French and I noticed in the .co.jp store there are few (overpriced) titles available. I don't wanna to be forced to pay 780¥ for 3.5€ ebooks or even worse not being able to buy them because of this stupid region lock thingie.
Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - squarezebra - 2012-11-17 I just got me one of those paperwhite thingymajigs, and I have a question about calibre... Is it possible to convert a text file to display vertical text in calibre? I'm guessing not as I've been through all the menus in calibre and can't find anything. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - apirx - 2012-11-17 I managed to get a J-E dictionary to work in my kindle android app by renaming some files. Now the only issue I still have is that there is no recognition for inflected verbs/adjectives. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - chamcham - 2012-11-20 Amazon Kindle Paperwhite review...in Japanese..... :-) http:// A Japanese news story: http:// Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - totsubo - 2012-12-08 In case this is of interest, I couldn't find any suitable Japanese/English dictionary to use with my new Japanese Kindle Paperwhite so I went and created one myself and published it on Amazon. If anyone is interested the ASBN for it is B00AKIUDAY You can find it here: http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00AKIUDAY/ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AKIUDAY/ If it is not available in your country feel free to send me a private email/message and I will see if I can get it published in your country. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - monitor - 2012-12-20 Just a heads up to anyone else trying to change their country and buy books on the Japanese Kindle store, I got this email from Amazon after doing so: Quote:Hello from Amazon. So avoid raising any suspicions when using the Japanese Kindle store, such as ever logging into your account with a non-Japanese IP address (which I did quite often). Otherwise, you may end up in this situation. And if you ever live in Japan and then leave, photocopy your ID before leaving so that you can use it as proof if ever needed. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - eddiet - 2012-12-28 I've been considering buying the Japanese Paperwhite, but am disappointed by the lack of a good J-E dictionary. In the meantime, I've been loving the iOS app Wakaru. Check it out. Great J-E dictionary support. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - Zorlee - 2013-01-07 I'm about to order a Kindle Paperwhite from amazon.jp, but I'm just wondering if there are any updates on using the Japanese Kindle store outside of Japan? I'm going back to Norway in August and really want to continue using the Kindle back in Norway, but I'm really not that good with computers etc. so all this "setting up a proxy" stuff is all Greek to me!
Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - chamcham - 2013-01-18 Zorlee Wrote:I'm about to order a Kindle Paperwhite from amazon.jp, but I'm just wondering if there are any updates on using the Japanese Kindle store outside of Japan?Judging from the email from Amazon posted earlier, I wouldn't merge accounts until you know what you're doing. Otherwise, Amazon will ask you for Japanese ID and ban your account if you don't have any. It would really suck to have your Amazon account banned. You wouldn't be able to buy a lot of stuff. You have 2 options. One is to use a web proxy. It works, but you might need to change your proxy every few days. A more permanent solution is to buy a private VPN. Web proxies are free but speed is erratic and they don't last long. VPNs are reliable and fast, but cost money. You can get both at http://www.hidemyass.com From their FAQ: Quote:What is the difference between a web proxy and a VPN?Prices for VPN (They have 248 IP addresses in Tokyo): 1 Month - $11.52 per month (Total price: $11.52) 6 Months - $8.33 per month (Total price: $69.12 $49.99; saving of 27%) 12 Months - $6.55 per month - Best Deal! (Total price: $138.24 $78.66 saving of 43%) Basically, you have to make sure that you only access the Amazon Kindle store and buy books while using your VPN or web proxy. It allows you to "virtually reside" in any country. Beyond that, I'm not sure if Amazon has any other security measures. To be safe, I'd buy a Japanese Paperwhite Wifi (the 3G model might have GPS). I'm guessing the serial number can tell Amazon where the Kindle was purchased from. Also, turn off Wifi when you leave home (to prevent yourself from connect to Wifi-spots (they would give away what country you're in). There's also the fact that you're using a foreign credit card to buy Japanese books. Also, when you Kindle goes online, your IP will indicate which country you're in. But if you install the VPN service on your router, everything connect to your router would have a Japanese IP. There is a list of recommended routers on the hidemyass website. Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - SomeCallMeChris - 2013-01-19 I use https://www.witopia.net/ for my VPN which starts at $50/year for the most basic service (which includes servers all over the world including Tokyo). I've been reasonably happy with them, and will probably continue to subscribe if there keep being stupid IP based lockouts that need getting around which seems likely to continue for the forseeable future. (I haven't tried to buy kindle books yet, so YMMV.) Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - ta12121 - 2013-01-23 They finally released it here in canada. I'm planning on getting it this week. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007OZO03M/ref=amb_link_369910982_3/178-0599875-7682401?ie=UTF8&nav_sdd=aps&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=00JPWGSS1QQVSE98EHJY&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1474540822&pf_rd_i=915398 Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - ta12121 - 2013-01-30 Update: I now have access to the JPN store(amazon). Everything works fine. I haven't actually bought anything yet but I plan to get gift cards and use that (don't really feel like putting my visa out there). Then again, I made a JPN account, switch some stuff, switched locations and now it works like a charm. They allow sample readings but I haven't used the JPN-JPN dictionary yet(only allowed to use when the actually books are purchased). Tenso or something else? Amazon's Japanese Kindle Store opens tomorrow - vix86 - 2013-01-31 EDIT: Just to clarify. The benefit of this is that it makes it easy to read books on separate kindle accounts. There is no true "logout" function on the android app so the only way to move to another region's kindle store on 1 android account (not amazon account) is to deregister the device and re-log. I wanted to tip people off to something cool I discovered today. I decided I wanted to access the JP kindle store now as well so I can pick up a few light novels. I have a lot of purchases on the US kindle store though and am a bit lazy to call and have stuff moved to my JP account. So I wondered if there was another option that might let me use both accounts, turns out there is. If you have an Android device with Jelly Bean installed and its rooted. You can actually run multiple kindle accounts. What you need to do is this: 1) Get a "Terminal Emulator" (search Play Store) 2) Run the emulator. 3) Type: 'su' press enter. You'll get a request for super user. Grant it. 4) Type: 'pm create-user <username>' where username is whatever you want. I named mine "US" to signify my US kindle (I officially moved my device to the JP store). Press Enter. 5) Exit the emulator. 6) Hold your power button and when the "Device Options" screen comes up you should now see on the list 2 new entries. "Primary" and "<username>". Press username. 7) The screen will change and probably jump you to a lock screen. Unlock and launch kindle. You'll be asked to log in. Log in with the other account that isn't logged in. 8) Tada. You now should be able to access your books on the other account. All this effectively is is having 2 different user accounts. Kindle stores the user login separate for each account based on the current system user. You'll be able to see books that you download for each account on all accounts but you won't be able to read books for those accounts you haven't put it on. It will say its an Invalid Item and ask you to remove it (you can cancel the screen it doesn't force you to). |
