JLPT courses in Tokyo? - Shizuru - 2007-12-09

I'm looking for JLPT level 3 (or 2) preparation summer courses in Tokyo. Anyone got any recommendations?

I'm basically looking for an intensive 4 weeks JLPT course, offering accommodation over the summer 2008, between middle of July to beginning of August.

Having looked through at least 20 Japanese language schools in Tokyo now, I feel a bit desperate, since only 3-4 of those offer JLPT courses, and none of them any suitable...

Any suggestions are welcome!

I did a course at Meguro Language Centre - it was a 'pre-advanced course' I think. Not a bad school but nothing mega. wrightak rates the school he went to in Tokyo, I think, so maybe he can help you out.

I went to Kai Japanese Language School. http://www.kaij.jp I wouldn't say it was "mega", but I had a great time there. They have JLPT courses that go through all of the grammar and kanji that you need. Needless to say, their kanji methods won't appeal to Heisig fans. But the grammar discussion in the classes, though not amazingly fun, is very useful.

The best thing about the school for me though was the community. I made some great friends there and the classes were fun. The school tries to prioritise the development of speaking skills and even the most basic classes are conducted entirely in Japanese. I think this is a good idea but it's also necessary because the range of nationalities at the school is very wide. This meant that the common language between me and my group of friends was Japanese so we spoke Japanese both inside and outside the class.

The school is in Korea town so there are quite a lot of Korean students and there are loads of fantastic and cheap Korean restaurants nearby. Smile (I love Korean food)

I've got the perfect place for you...... your apartment.

All you need is a few JLPT practice tests and the Kanzen master books.

good luck!

(not exactly what you wanted to hear, but if you've got motivation, you don't need schools.)
