Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - undead_saif - 2012-10-07 Hey guys, I'm just rising awareness about this wonderful man, Jason Becker. He has one of the most inspirational stories ever (literary), and I believe everyone should learn about it. I will try to make this as short as possible lest I fill this post with my thoughts, I hope it's not too dry. Jason Becker is a neo-classical guitarist who's a prodigy, to say the least, as a music composer and player. Just to show you what I mean, at the age of 17 he wrote a piece called 'Air' which was influenced by Mozart, it's a true master piece, just listen. He achieved a very high level technically too at a very early age, examples:this and this (you might not fully enjoy this kind of music despite it being great musically because it's fast, just keep on) At the age of 19, in 1989, his first album came out and I can't tell how musically great it is, examples are 'Altitudes' (you NEED to listen to this ) and 'Perpetual Burn'. That shows what a promising guy he was and explains calling him a prodigy, he was literary on the pinnacle of his career and one of the best of the best! Then things just went wrong! All what he has achieved and reached started to vanish after being diagnosed with ALS and (continue from Wikipedia) "he was given three to five years to live. In 1996, Becker eventually lost the ability to speak and now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father. Despite his disability, he continues composing by using a computer and has since released Collection, a "best of" album of his favorite songs and three new songs." I'll leave you with three videos that can explain more than what I can ever write, you'll get the full picture there. The first one is a documentary, the second one is a trailer for his coming documentary movie named 'Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet', and the third one has an interview at 2:30 that shows how his spirit is still at it's best! He's one tough man who gave me a lesson about life and living. He is one of my heroes. Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - undead_saif - 2012-10-10 Over 300 views and no replies :S I'm a bit disappointed. I really wished for this to inspire others enough for them to post something. Oh well, I guess this is the first and last bump. Maybe your candidate would probably be more suited for an internet forum with wannabe musicians or the like. For us Japanese language learners, a thread about inspiration and encouragement using Khatzumoto and his AJAAT method would probably generate more replies. Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - JimmySeal - 2012-10-11 It's an amazing story, and I found it very moving, but I don't think there's much to say about it beyond that. Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - umetani666 - 2012-10-12 don't like the music, but story reminds me a lot of 'the diving bell and the butterfly' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401383/ Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - undead_saif - 2012-10-12 umetani666 Wrote:don't like the music, but story reminds me a lot of 'the diving bell and the butterfly'Quite similar actually, except for the age. I didn't know about him before, thanks for sharing! Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - EasyJapanezy - 2012-10-12 the story was amazing but if anyone had any other sort of story of an individual learning a lot in a little amount of time (of any sort of subject) or something of the sort I would really love to see that. Jason Becker: An inspiration everyone should know about - imabi - 2012-10-12 I actually thought the music air was pleasant. Thanks for sharing. It really is an impression, and I think the same motivation and drive, just simply from a humanistic perspective, can be applied to anything something wants to achieve. |
