SRS problem... brain problem... - theadamie - 2012-10-06 I'm about 1200 cards into my minna no nihongo 2 deck and i can't seem to make any more progress. it seems like i'm just seeing the same words every day and not adding any new ones "due to the amount i've got wrong". what can i do to really memorize these words that are giving me trouble since Anki on default settings isn't helping. should i do something to the settings, or maybe even add a second vocab study method? if you think i should do the latter what would you recommend? SRS problem... brain problem... - buonaparte - 2012-10-06 I would recommend to read a decent handbook on General Psychology, particularly chapters on Learning, Memory, Thinking adn Language, Motivation and Emotion, and Decision Making. SRS problem... brain problem... - howtwosavealif3 - 2012-10-06 You're not supposed to use srs like that To read this http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=171218#pid171218 SRS problem... brain problem... - MindTrick - 2012-10-06 Are you adding sentence cards too or vocab only? It's really difficult to learn words out of context so I suggest you add sentence cards too if you are not doing so already. SRS problem... brain problem... - theadamie - 2012-10-06 i'm using the pre-made minno no nihongo decks and i guess that's my problem SRS problem... brain problem... - Miyumera - 2012-10-06 Yes I agree it's better to learn them in context. I find it gives the brain something to 'hook' the word onto so to speak. I use Genki and I find that the exercises help me to actively use the vocabulary presented in the chapters vs just reading a word and reading a sentence and then memorizing it. When I take the time to study the vocabulary (as in visualizing me using it the appropriate everyday situation) I find that helps too. Or even acting it out in my mind and saying the word outloud. I also use Lang-8 to do my homework since I don't have a teacher to correct me. basically, you probably need SRS but more importantly you also need to USE the words. There's a chinese proverb that says ' I hear I forget - I see I remember - I do I understand' more or less.. you can extrapolate the meaning there is that things will stick better if you do something actively with the vocabulary SRS problem... brain problem... - Mesqueeb - 2012-10-06 theadamie Wrote:I'm about 1200 cards into my minna no nihongo 2 deck and i can't seem to make any more progress. it seems like i'm just seeing the same words every day and not adding any new ones "due to the amount i've got wrong". what can i do to really memorize these words that are giving me trouble since Anki on default settings isn't helping. should i do something to the settings, or maybe even add a second vocab study method? if you think i should do the latter what would you recommend?Delete more than you review.
