To be fair, I've seen this happen to people who asked questions about things that even had their own topic marker in the FAQ/manual. It's annoying when people can't even take the time to do the minimum research required.

How exactly do you limit reviews in Anki 2? I remember reading about it in the introductory guide before upgrading but I haven't figured out how it works. Or is the review count generally scarcer than before?

I will go take another look at the changelog, but if you can tell me exactly how it works then please do! Smile

It's really just a daily review cap. The due count doesn't get higher than the magic number, regardless of how many reviews are actually left. Once you hit the quota, it won't show any more cards. I believe Damien put this in for psychological reasons, and that it's set to 100 by default.

Of course, the permanent solution is to not get frustrated by massive review counts. ;p

Edit: It seems you set it by deck option groups; open a deck and hit オプション or whatever at the bottom. Second tab.

Anki 2 is out! - Errol246 - 2012-10-15

Ok, I seem to have figured out how the algorithm for limiting reviews works. I just click on the deck, then click オプション (options), then the review tab and then I change the interval modifier. I've changed it from 100% to 80%. We'll see if the number of reviews is really limited.

I have one big quarrel with Anki 2.0: When I browse my RTK deck, I can't seem to display the decks in the Heisig learning order, "奔, 噴, 墳...", or perhaps the lesson number seems to have been erased. This is a bit of a problem because I always suspend the cards I have not startet studying yet. Of course I could just search for and unsuspend the cards I want to study, but sometimes I want to study new ones even though I haven't finished reviewing, and the I want to suspend my due cards while I study the new ones.

Can somebody guide me?

*EDIT*: Another problem with this is that earlier I only had to search for the first new card I was studying, and then I could just progress down the list, adding all my stories and unsuspending the cards. Now I have to search for each and every new card, which takes a bit longer than usual.

Hm, what? It's not an algorithm, it's a cap. It should say maximum reviews or something at the top. Its purpose is to make you actually not give up when you have 2000 cards due.

The only way to decrease the number of reviews you get would be to increase the intervals at which the cards are displayed. That is what's controlled by the "interval modifier" setting. If you want to do that, you should increase the modifier. Note that this will likely cause your retention to fall.

Here's the full low-down: http://ankisrs.net/docs/dev/manual.html#_reviews

Anki 2 is out! - Errol246 - 2012-10-15

I'm a bit confused now. Maybe we should just leave it as is.

Anki 2 is out! - resolve - 2012-10-16

Yes, you should change the max reviews/day setting rather than the interval modifier. And re searching, I'm not sure what you mean. You can sort by creation date if you wish.

Anki 2 is out! - dtcamero - 2012-10-19

Hi Resolve, I use a HTML 'on mouse-over' coding in my card design to have text invisible unless I want to see it... Well in ankimobile 1 I would activate that text by pressing and then swiping it. Ankimobile2 won't let me do that... Any ideas on how to make this work?

You can still sort by any field in the Anki browser. (I don't think it's a great interface because you can only have one sort field at a time.) Anyway, in the browser with cards being displayed, you click on the [Fields] Button, then select on the field you want to sort by, then click on the radio box that says "Sort by this field in the browser". Click close, and now you can click on the Sort Field to sort by the field you selected.

As for the searching problem, maybe you should tag all your cards by chapter#. Like "Chapter01,Chapter02..." Then you can search for a lesson by tag. "tag:tagname" in the search box to search for a specific tag. And then you can figure out where in the list you are and move on from there.

Can you use a hint field?

In any case, I know Fabrice doesn't want Anki support questions on this forum, so it'd be great if you guys could post any other questions about Anki 2 on the Anki forums instead.

Is anki to for mobile any more standalone than the version out now? I'm on my iPad and I forgot to unsuspend cards before leaving the house so right now I have 10+ hours I can't get to new cards because I can't really get into my cards and unsuspend. Also graphs on mobile, would be fun and appropriate for future planning how I add cards.

Anki 2 is out! - resolve - 2012-10-22

AM2 provides the same graphs as the desktop. There is no bulk editing facility at the moment, so you would only be able to unsuspend cards one at a time, which is not practical.

Anki 2.0.2 is out and it has a ridiculously nice change log including per day stats!

Anki 2 is out! - fishhead - 2013-01-13

Sorry if this is something that has already been explained in the Anki user guide, but I can't seem to find the answer: When answering cards in a new deck for the first time I have the options of '1 minute', '10 minutes', or '4 days'. Does anyone know how to set it so that the minimum option is '10 minutes', followed by '1 day', and then '4 days'?

Go to settings and write in the new cards thingy.
10 1440 5760

That worked for me, mostly. It seems like Anki 2 is made for those who learn from Anki (I use Anki to review what I've learnt, which is the way it was intended to be used.)

Thank you very much - that is the same problem I am experiencing. I am regretting switching over, but have been using anki 2 for about a month now and am not sure if there is any way of switching back to 1 without loosing my month's worth of reviews.

I'm pretty happy sitting with Anki 1 right now but I'm looking to switch in the next week or two. It's a forced change because the Anki server for synching with version 1 will close down on the 4th of February. There's no staying with version 1. I donated last year because I found the tool so helpful. I'm not sure if I will again because of the forced move.
Think of it as an upgrade.

Maybe it costs money to support the syncing of both version 1 and 2. From what I see, anki 2 syncs differently, in the sense that it syncs much faster.

The method I used isn't perfect though, because yesterdays failed cards will have 10 min - 4 days - 4 days for me, which is kind of annoying. I wish there were an option to set it to Anki one style intervals.

I've switched today, and I'm not happy to be honest. The mobile client isn't as good as the previous one, yet.

I switched because the new learning mode seems to be much more efficient than my initial intervals with Anki 1.

I put in '10 1440 5760' in the 'steps (in minutes)' section, but it is still coming up as '10 minutes, 1 day, 4 days' for cards I encounter for the first time. Perhaps I have done something wrong? My issue with this is that if I hit the same button for the majority of cards, I won't have a lot of reviews for a few days but then I will suddenly be inundated with a load in 4 days' time.

Then your problem is that you add too much at once, isn't it? The anki algorithm isn't designed for your comfort, it's designed to get stuff in your head and make it stay there...

Anki 2 is out! - Betelgeuzah - 2013-01-15

In my sentence deck I like to manipulate the dates for new cards, since some days I have like 50 reviews and some others like 150, which is why I put the new cards on the days with the least reviews. It's easy to do from the deck settings (I think it's "easy interval" and "hard interval" or something in English).

"1440 5760" sounds useless, since those are the default Anki times for not "learning mode"... I only use times "<1 day" for learning.

Anyway, I think that what you want is this: Load Balancer
