I figured it might be interesting to ask around and see what everyone's favorite J-J dictionary is and why.  

Personally, I'm an avid fan of using 大辞林 and 三省堂 in conjunction, given the prior's depth, and the latter's focus on colloquialisms and simple explanations.  

What about you all?

I like 明鏡 best overall for it's helpful usage notes, and clear definitions. It's also probably the most beginner friendly, so it was my first J-J dictionary. It's small though, so I tend to use 大辞泉 a lot, and 日本国語大辞典 when I need more depth.

I most often use 広辞苑 or the 明鏡 because those are on my electronic dictionary.

I used to really like the 大辞林 iOS app by Monokakido. Android doesn't have anything of this quality, so I usually use the version of 大辞林 on the Excite website or the version of スーパー大辞林 bundled with OS X. I use it mostly to check accent codes. Other dictionaries I've tried haven't usually had accent codes, so I've never moved away from 大辞林.

I personally use Goo and Sanseido (exactly the same reason as your's). Give goo a try!

I prefer the 大辞林, but like yudantaiteki, I also usually use the 明鏡 or 広辞苑 because they are the ones built into my electronic dictionary.
